Ever dream of your Elans having their own village?

Postby Se » Fri 10.06.2016, 22:20

Here it is, for real. Elan Village, in North Wales.

I came across this by chance when I was visiting Pen y Garreg Dam (A very beautiful area for Elans to drive along)

They even have their own river, and valley.

Every Elans should at least come once. Beautiful.

ps. forgive me if you already know this.

ps.2 wish I have more pics but it's so dark already, and raining, and I decided not to wait for the next day.

It does look nice there, somewhere I should visit.

I bet it's an Excel-lent place to live, but probably expensive, I guess you need to be a member of the Elite. Maybe one could rent or take out a lease (Elise, ok, it's getting tenuous now)!

You might need to be a member of the Elite, but I expect there's an excellent community spirit among the locals.

Or should I say " Esprit de corps"?

I'll get my coat . . . . .

Better the Elan Valley than the Severn Valley.

Seriously though Club Lotus have been holding an event in that area for several years. Never quite made it though. :-(

This thread about other uses of the word "Elan" prompted a recollection of an earlier model Elan conversion colloquially known as the Elanbulance. A bit of Googling, and I found this.

I know there were design studies for a coupe M100, but did anybody ever consider a hatchback?

Its very ugly but would possibly suit a funeral directors business. There must be lots of Lotus lovers who want to make their final journey in a Lotus hearse ? It just needs s bit of black paint

The Elanbulance is well known in old Elan and historic Lotus circles, as indeed is Malcolm Rickets.

But there is also a very nice well thought out hatchback version of the Plus 2. Conceived by its owner Roger Makhlouf, with considerable assistance from Paul Matty and Shapecraft.

Link to some photos

But I have no info on any M100 attempts!

Is that where the big reservoirs are ? Think I've been through there, fantastic part of Wales.

Yes, they are the big reservoirs in Wales. Used to go there as a schoolboy many years ago.

Historical too because that's where Sir Barnes Wallis trialed and perfected the "bouncing bomb", a very successful device used by The Dambusters against the Germans in the Second World War. The dams in the Saar and Ruhr valleys in Germany took some very big hits disrupting hydro electric power. He was one of my schoolboy heroes. Jim Clark was another
