mud flaps

Hi All,
I'm getting fed up with all the crud up the side of the Elan so thought I'd try fitting some mud flaps, Its going in for some paint work on Saturday so before I drill any holes I thought I'd get some feedback, they are only held on with double sided tape at the moment.

So should I keep them or lose them?

They look nice and neat, but personally, I'm not a fan. Great on a Land Rover but I'd never put them on a sports car, particularly a Lotus. Leave them to the MG and MX5 boys

They look good but I agree with the "don't do it" approach as voiced above. However, its your car and individual tastes make the world go round so if it serves your purpose then go for it!

Clearly my contrasting comments won't help - I know........ so sorry!

I'm slightly bias because mine came with mud flaps already fitted, albeit not of the moulded variety but more a "period" set held on by crimp type fasteners.
I belive they were fitted by the supplying dealer and I have just left them on
They might stop some flying crud but not all looking at the stone chips on the flanks in front of the rear wheel arch

Keep them. They look a better fit than the original Lotus ones on my car. Where did you get them and what's the reference?

My car has had mud flaps for the last 15 years in an attempt to reduce the road rash. As per daveiow, they have reduced the problem, but certainly not eliminated it.

And I also have a Land Rover. It has mud flaps too.

I've got a set of the thin rubber ones from an old group buy on here - they aren't too obtrusive and are designed to fit the car.

Again, they aren't perfect, but they do reduce the amount of mudsplash up the side of the car (and on my colour car they don't really notice very much).

They were an Ebay find, universal fitment for the Hyundai range, just need to trim the down a bit. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/europartsdeale ... =971829615

1) It started to rain so I put the car away Quick!

2) She's going in for some minor paint repairs so --------!
3) It's the wife's, she drives it, she should clean it ( check over shoulder, make sure she's not reading )

4) Proves that it gets used!
5) It was beer o'clock and I couldn't be bothered!

Please choose one of the poor excuse above.

Any ideas how to mount them without drilling holes in the arches ?

Jon - you mentioned you were going in to some paintwork ? If so, and you are having the bonnet, bumper, behind front wheel arches, in front of rear wheel arches etc.... done it would be worth investing in that plastic Armourfend, or whatever it's called. ???? Not only does it prevent stone chips damaging t he new paint but it looks a helluva lot better than mudflaps

Or you might want to consider both for double protection

Have you thought about the rally type that are not a rubber moulding and just a sheet of PVC or KAYLAN PU?
They are less obtrusive and you could stick on a Lotus or Elan Decal?

If you get the black you can hardly tell they're there as they blend in / line up with the tyres
