Electric Water Pump

Importec delivered the pump in a Bosch box with the Mercedes-Benz 000 835 69 64 part number prominently displayed. Armed with that I quicly found an even lower price, $62.29, at this site http://www.eurasiaparts.net/item/car-tr ... id=3703480 for the same Bosch part I got from Importec. Perhaps you can even do better with a little looking around.

If there is a Wiki part # xref for this "Auxiliary Water Pump" (as stated on the outside of box) the Mercedes-Benz # should likewise be included, with the same caveat about switching-over the Elan's impeller-cover. With Lotus no longer doing aftersales lists annually this kind of info is more important than ever, as their $450 price will no longer waver. Besides, I've only had one of these go bad on my three Elan's so I don't think it's a "buy on sale" part anyway.

For those who are comfortable only dealing with Rock Auto they do list Bosch 0130002070 for $90.79, although they show no applications for the part.

Fitted the Vauxhall Omega water pump (cannot remember which one but think they are the same) to the Elan last year, garage said it fitted fine although they had to change the connector.

Yes, the pre-facelift Omega has the same pump with a different connector - when I put a wanted out on findapart I got 3 replies and bought one for around £20, with a 3 month warranty.

The plug needs to be fitted (a quick solder job), the pre stripped wires make it easy, they even supply 2 inline splices. The hose fittings are pretty much the same size as well.

Because of the plug, the pump sits about 2" to the right (from the rear) compared to the old one. I fitted new hoses at the same time so not a problem for me but be advised. The Merc one I fould at the local scrappy was even worse.

If this link does not work, do a search for 0008356964. It seems to be widely available but at different pricing - it is over $200 on Rockauto- but it's a Bosch.

I can't really wait for one to turn up from the US as we are off to France in a couple of weeks.

If you read the post at the top of page 3 of this thread, then put "Mercedes-Benz 000 835 69 64" into UK ebay, you might find yourself one pretty quickly and about half SJS price!

Can anyone confirm the brown wire from the original is + and the black -?

It might seem an odd question as I had assumed that to be so but the plug into the loom puts brown to black and black to black/white trace(possibly purple).

According to wiring diagram, pump to earth is black and pump to relay (live feed) is black/slate.

Fans are black to earth, with a black/green feed.

Can't see a brown wire on the diagram at all except for 2 wires on the fan relay: black/brown and brown. The black/brown goes to a fuse becoming a black/red then going to the pump relay.

The second one is identical to the original.

The first will work ok but you would need to change the plug I think

After refilling the cooling system after changing the cam belt & main water pump, I had a slight leak from the impeller housing of the electric aux water pump. Took a gamble on ebay for a SLK/Vito pump

It fitted OK after I rotated the motor 90 degrees, and used standard automotive bullet type connectors to connect up. Runs OK, it has the benefit of magnetic coupling to the impeller, so there is no motor shaft seal to leak. Time will tell if its good quality.
