Points West (Wiltshire) LEC - Potential Get-Together

Postby Saltire » Fri 23.09.2016, 11:34

The evenings are drawing in :x, and it'll soon be Christmas :x :x , but I think we still have time to try and organise a get-together to mark the end of the summer. My original intention was just to see lotusles, so I could hand over his Brit-Car-Nut gear cables, which have been sitting in my garage since the spring. I then exchanged a few PMs with ultimatt with a view to meeting up, and things sort of grew from there.

So, is anyone interested in a meet-up somewhere around and about Swindon (not IN Swindon, for obvious reasons :D ) over the next few weeks. If so, please post and say whether you prefer evenings or weekends. And if you can suggest a suitable venue, reasonably convenient for the M4, then let us know. Not restricted to those with an SN postcode, by the way; feel free to come even if you live further afield.

Let's sort out a date, and then I'll start a list . . . .

Count me in.
Evenings will draw in fast now so will not be best for showing of our motored (probably a good thing in my case), but happy to meet up evenings or weekends.

Not available on 1st/2nd.

Couple of nice pubs in Wanborough just off junction 15.
Or there's the drive through Costa Coffee at junction 16. Actually quite a nice environment but parking can be restricted.

I've missed everything this year but wouldn't mind one last blast before going into hibernation. Anyone know this pub, The White Hart at Ford SN14 8RP https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The ... -2.2301909
Does really good steaks apparently.
Anytime after the 6th October as I have the mother of all pensions exams on that day. Weekend probably better. I was intending to meet up with Bern sometime so he could drive my car and see how it compared to his but my steering wheel hasn't yet arrived from Canada. Should be with me soon though.

Genuinely the best burgers I have ever tasted. Great coffee. Few craft beers if you fancy it. Nice setting, cakes etc etc

Don't know it, but it's really close to me. Jolly Nice is also good, but the menu's quite restricted, basically pulled pork or burger, which may not suit some. Good farm shop though.

We're away the weekend after Andy's exam, so how about we aim for lunchtime on Saturday 15th October? Venue tbc.

 What was that pub we used when we dined what's his face off to France? Geoff, Dave? That was quite nice!

Anyway, the pub you've picked is very nice and the beer is good.

Bell at Sapperton is good, and has a big car park. My only thought is that it's the furthest one for Artaban - though he may not mind that?

Not bothered by the distance. I used to cover an area from Stoke on Trent to Glasgow/Edinburgh so Sapperton is just around the corner. Besides the further away it is the bigger excuse I'll have to be away from the house and the jobs the Mrs wants me to do.

Apologies for the silence - I've been away on business all week.

List
    1. Jonathan (saltire)
    2. Matt (ultimatt)
    3. Andy (Artaban)
    4. Bern

Attendees so far, but any and all others welcome. Elans encouraged, but by no means compulsory. Please let me know if you're thinking of coming, so I can book a table if necessary. Looking forward to a good chat and inspecting the other cars.

Hi Bern
I know you wanted to get together with Artaban and see his car; we could potentially move the date to the following weekend if that would help. Let us know what you'd prefer, otherwise we'll press on with the 15th.

That's very good of you, I definitely can't do the 15th, I may be able to make another day but I can't be certain (I'm trying to complete some building work before it turns wet and/or cold)!

If the rest of you decide where and when you want to meet up, and I'll make it if I can!

Cheers,

Bern.

Right, everybody. Time to make some definite arrangements. Assuming ultimatt and artaban are still good to go, let's meet up this Saturday (15th) at the place Andy suggested:
The White Hart
Google Maps location: The White Hart at Ford

Anyone else in the area on the day is more than willing to join in. As there are only three of us at present, I haven't booked a table, but I can do if you feel strongly about it.

I'll be there from about 12:30 onwards. Unless the weather's foul, I'll be in the Elan, otherwise it'll be the 320d:

See you then! :gathering:

Hi,
All is OK for me for Saturday so see you there 12.30 ish. Will probably bring the Elan regardless of the weather as it needs a bit of a run.
