Quick update: The vendor hasn't replied to my question as yet.
There's probably a perfectly valid reason why not......

known .

Whats a Dave Myers rear strut brace ? Hes one of the hairy bikers...........

A rear strut brace for the M100 is a device designed to add weight to the car and restrict room in the boot, whilst lightening the owners wallet.
Anybody who thinks a bar inside the boot between the top of 'the towers' is needed probably hasn't looked at the chassis design - it's more like a slightly bent beam and the grp body is quite rigid too...

It's been nearly 10 years, but I'm still waiting to see Algirdas' video to convince me that torsional rigidity is improved.

Thanks for the link to that other thread Geoff, pissed myself laughing at such a load of bullshit - 'conventional wisdom' -ha ha, & that picture of the TR8 bar already bent to go round the carb really takes the biscuit...
Seems that you and me are in the same camp ... some time I'll rig up a dial gauge between the rear damper mounts and jack it up at the front and if it changes 10 thou I'll be surprised.
It's only the damper top mount, the inboard suspension pickups that create torsional loads are much further towards the centre. It will be the longitudinal box between front & rear that twists, not 'the humping big U section'.
Lotus quoted torsional rigidity of 6,600 ft.lb per degree so there won't be much twist anyway.

The Elan (T45) & +2 (T50) had tall suspension towers that racers used to brace with a good bit of rollcage design but wider wheels and sticky tyres created a lot more load than road cars anyway.
Helped to take some strain off the welds too... I can see the point of that but completely unnecessary on the M100.

No doubt that shed will be ending up in a shed near Worcester and we will be seeing the parts at high prices on EBay next week

I emailed the previous shed owner ( when it was in bexley) with a view to buying it as a donor for the tub and rear lights to the cobble it together with Simons rear ended s2 ...

Shed owner never replied .

i fear this will become parts .. and to be fair sheds help us keep ours on the road . The only hope i could see for this is someone buys the windscreen BCN mentioned and tried to put it back on the road ... on the gumtree thread someone mentioned it has been off the road for 7 years , so a fair bit of work for someone .

But hey we have seen it done .

Always a difficult question to answer - the only definative answer is that it is worth whatever the final bid price is on the auction! (assuming the sale is then completed).

It needs either a lot of time or money spending on it to get it back on the road, but anything is salvagable given the time/money and parts required.

Alternatively, it may be better broken for spares - some parts will sell easily/quickly, others will take time to sell....

It may be possible to spend a couple of days graft on it to get it ready for an MOT, or it may need weeks of work (plus renewing all the engine belts etc as it has been sat around for a long time).

Without viewing the car I can't be any more specific, sorry. (It is one which I don't already know).

If you are breaking it for spares I wouldn't bid much more (bid at currently £1600). If you are looking to restore and sell on then thats a huge gamble and if you are looking to restore to keep make sure you have deep pockets....very deep pockets. To put that in context and assuming you wanted to do the job properly you'd be richer after a divorce and gambling addiction than after restoring this car.
Thats the response from a born pessimist; just to balance Dave's more optimistic outlook.

Was my post optimistic?

Maybe, maybe not - but I agree with Andys assesments.

Bottom line is that to make it a car again (worth calling such) is only really going to happen as a labour of love for someone who either has a damaged one already, has plenty of time on their hands and is looking for a project, or wants something to play with for educational purposes.....

.... there are far easier/cheaper ways to get a useable example.

I've seen them go at auction, fully running and 12 months MOT for £2500. He should have taken it. Maybe I'll be proved wrong and the prices are on the up.

Both my red one and blue one were £3k each - all complete, all original parts (wheels etc), 12 months MOT and service history......

..... yep, he should have taken £2.5K

Maybe I was lucky, or the market has, as you say, improved a lot.
