Electric Rooftop ?

Dear All,

I had a look on the movie "Honey I Blew Up the Kid" because of the Lotus M100 Federal apparition. And the only thing interesting (of the movie ) is the fact that there's an automatic open and close system for the roof....
My question is, was it an option when the M100 was selled (may be only for the Federals) or is it just for the movie ?

Just the movie I suppose, I have never heard about that before, and I have never read anything about that in the workshop manual either.

Given the framing when the roof goes up, there's probably someone out of shot just pulling it up.
Way simpler than trying to add motors.

I watched the clip posted by Giniw several times and all I can see is he pressed the spare switch, appeared to push his window glass down by hand, then it cuts to a close up view from front and milk gets squirted on the screen with a wash-wipe action and the hood then appears coming up from behind them several seconds later.. no doubt with a crew hand on each side. Think I can put it up by hand quicker than that..

Bullitt - I seem to remember Bullit's Mustang had alloys and the Dodge Charger lost 3 hubcaps on the yumps in the city but they were all back on when it left the city. Must have popped in for a Williams F1 pitstop that we all missed...

Isn't the car chase in Bullitt the same few corners shot from different cameras, they pass the same VW beetle at least four times I think, not the best car chase I have ever scene if I'm honest.

I think you're all being a bit harsh on Ztabed, it was a legitimate question from a guy who obviously lacks all your vast experience of the M100.

Joking amongst ourselves is fine but has familiarity bred contempt. A bit more charity wouldn't have gone amiss, or should those of us with limited knowledge and skills be put off asking questions lest the 'experts' consider us foolish.

A powered roof would take at least 3 motors working in synch to operate. Lotus did a great job with the chassis because that is what they do best. They seemed to run out of budget when designing a leak-free roof so I am glad they never tried to motorise it.

And with 3 more motors they'd have needed to go into providing brakes for us.
