this one to your attention.....(even though it has been in the public domain for a few days).....
..... and before I get accused of keeping quiet about it, I wish to state for the record that the only parts I have asked for are the fuel filler flap, drivers's side falling pillar seal and mirror direction switch.
However, there possibly isn't much left worth having as there is currently a van driving south from Yorkshire containing wheels, steering wheel, wishbones, fuel tank, various trim panels, doors etc etc.
That said, there are probably an awful lot of 'odds and ends' which may help out someone who needs bits for their own cars.... and I'm sure that if you want to know more, then either the guy breaking the car, or an esteemed LEC member from Devon may know what is left, and be able to tell you what condition they are in
Unfortunately, as the vehicle is declared as a Cat B, it wasn't possible to secure the whole shebang for dismantling at a more convenient time/place - so any bits will need to be obtained from the salvage yard directly.
So sad it to see what was a fantastic example of a car reduced to bits .
A cat B is sadly going to the crusher .
That said i had ripe pickings of what was not damaged by fire . I saw it on ebay Monday , made contact and made my intentions known , Hired a van 1st thing tuesday morning and set of on my 5 hour journey to Middle England from the English Rivera . What a long day it was . By 3.00 i was stripping bits , by 530 back on the road .Back home at 11.55pm.
As you can see it had sustained fire damage which had licked round both sides of the car . Driver side more substantially . (looks like the fuel rail was at fault)
Top half of the engine is toasted . as was clamshell , A panels , windscreen , screen rubbers , part of dash . Large parts of glass had burnt its way down onto the dash and first half of centre console including the gear stick and gator . I assume the cockpit had filled with smoke as the dials and speedo have a film of smoke over them . Though i do think a clean would bring them back into serviceable condition . The original tape player thin plastic facia had melted ( that gives an idea of how hot it got inside the car)
The lower parts like intercooler , radiator , bumper looked to be unscathed . Though the headlamp motor tops had melted and the headlight pods took some damage.
front arch liners disintegrated on O/S . Poor on N/S
The seats were missing . The roof was burnt but some rubbers were ok , though not in the greatest condition .
N/S door sustained damage to the door and seal towards the front , minor bubbling on wing mirror
O/S door sustained heavy damage towards front of door , door seal , U/S door mirror
OS break caliper burnt possibly ok N/S ok
Towards the back of the car the deck , rear bumper boot & spoiler undamaged and still with breaker .
Though the guy that was helping me remover the interior carpets stuck a chisel through the immaculate deck seal to get to the b post plastic surround . my heart sank somewhat . He did the same when trying to remove the door cards looking for the screws . I tried to get him away from the car after that . Helpful yes costly moreso.
I had the obvious stuff .
Wheels , complete suspension set up , discs , driveshafts ,Gear linkage cables , prongeron , steering wheel ( light damage) switches , ECU , glovebox , entire carpets , centre console , doors x2 , Roof , rear lights , eyebrows , plate holder , filler flap (pinky) fuel cell , badges , battery cover ,
break bias , hand break , break actuator and rear callipers & Front callipers still with breaker
Dials , speedo , boot , hood stowage deck cover front and rear bumper still with breaker
Toasted Engine bay stuff ( minus gearbox & gear linkage Cables , prongeron ) still with breaker .
Basically if it was any good . i had it .
Do give me a shout if you want to know about whats left . i can tell you .
Next stop a Jamie full header seal and whip old red SE out of the barn .
Jim Clark S2 - 1/12. The one with the Yellow spoke wheels . No 613 on dash (pushed in to factory in wrong order 615 on tub)
