Scratches

Hi all,
After a bit of advice, whilst everything is in generally good condition on the car there are a couple of small reminders of a previous owner in the form of scratches. From the photos can anyone tell me if these are on plastic bumpers or actually in the fibre glass itself?
Can anyone give an indication of what would be required to set these right (in terms of effort and cost), just as a point of reference I'm based in Bristol in the UK so if anyone has particular firms they could recommend I'd be very grateful.

Everything is repairable.....

.... but can only be done 'properly' by someone with the correct knowledge and skill of the materials involved.

Which side of Bristol are you? - I had my car sprayed by a guy down at Kingston Seymour, and can't fault his work. He also did some repair work to the bumpers from a previous owners' 'touch parking', and dealt with a small crack in the front wheelarch.

3 years later, there is no sign of the previous damage showing through.

His background is in fibreglass work for various car manufacturers/repairers, but much of his work now is on airbrush artwork (camper vans etc).

Prices were good - but the only word of caution is to allow him time to do the work..... his deadlines had a habit of "slipping". This wasn't a problem to me, as i knew it would be a long job fitted in between other work - so a couple of small repairs shouldn't get into that game.

He doesn't have a website, and doesn't advertise as he always seems to have work on by 'word of mouth'.....

Awesome thanks for the advice Dave. Just so I know what I'm getting into, what constitutes a "good" price for something like this? I have no idea what I should be looking for ballpark with this.

Ah, that's a question!

I can't say what you may consider a 'good' price......

.....it will all depend on the amount of work required - the actual paint may well blend quite easily as it isn't a metalic colour, or it may need whole panels painting (with associated 'prep' work/cost.

If it helps, I paid £2k for a complete repspray - changing from Pacific Blue to Empire Green. The paint cost the same, the amount of prep work was very similar (as Ken takes everything down to sound gelcoat before starting the primer, base colour, laquer (with lots of work inbetween coats). he also does a few 'polishes' with machine and by hand at the end.

However, I did the strip & refit of all panels - delivering the rolling shell on a trailer and all seperate panels as and when he wanted them...... much of that wouldn't be an issue as I wouldn't expect any more than a bumper removal to be needed in your case.

I don't think that is anything specialist - try some local people for some quotes.

How about trying your local branch of Chipsaway. I'm not sure if they are au fait with fibreglass but worth a try ?

I was going to mention Chipsaway but was afraid I was going to be shot down !!

I think if it's repainting then it doesn't need a fibreglass specialist.

If it needs ripples/blisters/crazing taken out of the fibreglass then yes a specialist is needed. If it's just painting when the fibreglass is good then just a good paint shop is needed.

I think it's probably more than just a paint fix as what ever the previous owner hit has caused the scores to go into the body work (probably most visible if you click on the top image)
