Hood Conditioner

Back in October I used Autoglym hood cleaner and conditioner to, well, clean and condition my hood!

Since then 2 tears have appeared, one looks like it might have rubbed against the catch that holds the hood cover down (when the roof was down), and the other has just appeared above the rear of the passenger window.

It had one hole already which I fixed, so I guess it's wearing out anyway, but it feels like the Autoglym stuff has dried the hood out, I feel like it should be a bit more oily, if you see what I mean.

Can anybody recommend anything else to put on it, so it lasts a little longer before I have to get a new hood?

Have used it for years and it is very good. Although, I have to say, not as good as it used to be. I suspect Renovo have possibly been subjected to EEC rules and regs. ??

Anyway, make sure your hood is clean and dry. Work with a 2" paint brush and apply from the middle to the outside edges. Do not apply too much or it will run. Wipe off any black overspill, drips etc... on the glass/paint as you go. Catch it early with a damp cloth otherwise its more difficult to remove when dry

Allow to dry thoroughly and put your car back in the garage. DO NOT leave outside if rain is imminent unless you want the camouflaged look on your windows and paintwork

Don't be tempted by the cheaper alternatives, I know somebody with an Audi that boasted how cheaply he did his for after I recommended Renovo.
He now has a awful patchy and scabby roof

If your using renovo and have the right equipment it responds really well to being sprayed.

An hvlp paint spraying kit is sufficient as you don't need a finish but it lets you get a perfect even coating of the colour

Having reviewed the Moderator Logs, I think that you may owe Spud a bit of an appology (I'm not saying who may have done such a thing, but you don't need to appologise to the other person mentioned....)


Oh, and just to stay on topic, Renovo is the dogs bits - enough in the bottle to do 2 hoods.

I'm not too worried about how it looks, I just don't want it to get any worse before I get around to replacing it. Which may take a while!

Another vote for Renovo but I also added a few coats of Fabsil @ £25 for 5l. Any rains beads beautifully and can be knocked off before stowing the hood. I got some equestrian material (strong and thin) to reinforce my hood.

I, too, have found Lenovo, backed up by Fabsil, to be very effective.

Oh dear! I've used the Autoglym stuff on mine with no problems a few times but I'll look out for any issues now. I do have a thinning bit where it has caught in the stowage cover catch though - I put it down to someone carelessly folding the hood.

I've got some of the aforementioned equestrian patches for that - remind me before Castle Combe.

I've used it on other cars without issue, but I felt that with my roof now past it's best that there might be something better!
