Header Seal..The new concept..

Cheers for the offer Steve, I might have to pop round and have a look.
I have got a set of Jamie's 'a' pillar seals and my header seal is starting to look a bit tired in places.

As luck would have it I was looking at a seal to go around the bottom of the door, ordered some to look at and they sent me some of that d-profile in error instead, so I actually have some of this in stock, which is handy.

I was lucky enough to get one of Jamies combined header & A pillar seals, think it was a development/prototype set but it fitted perfectly.

I used this seal for the leading edge of the hood:-

It provides a good rubber on rubber seal which I have tested and doesnt let any water in but I do intend to adjust the roof catches to increase the clamping force and lower the front edge of the hood as advised by the Seal Master himself. I believe the under bonnet seal from a Toyota Aygo is also a good fit.

Scott J who owned the car prior to me had previously comissioned Jamie to replace the A-pillar & intermediate seals with EPDM versions and at the same time the front sides were replaced with EPDM versions also crafted by Jamie. In terms of my cars hood it is only the falling pillar seals that remain of the soakupalot sponge material.

The easiest option for this part of the conversion is to remove the side sections from the original header (provided they are not too delapidated of course) and shape the ends to fit the new arrangement, that will allow you to do the job fairly easily and get it pretty much completed. The ultimate way to do it, is make brand new EPDM side section seals which can be constructed from donors, applying yourself with single minded determination can yeild something which can look and work as good and proffesional as something factory made, but commitment is a prerequisite!. Find the motivation and you will have an end result which will give you a great sense of self achievement, look and work superior to the original, and most importantly preclude the need to shell out a big wad of cash .

Thanks Thirou, Those ones were the very early versions, recent ones are even better and they come with the hoods forward seals which correspond with it.

Just a quick update on the latest version of the hood seals which go with the one piece header and A pillars combined seal, these ones have an even
nicer finish. Probably the best ones yet, probably a hell of a lot of work . (logo only indicating what they are for )

I only have the one piece header and A pillar combined seal and the 2 forward seals on the side of the hood, this is the seal in the picture
below, it does away with the original design which had separate A pillar and header seals made from easily disintegrated sponge, the new type is
EPDM Rubber.

The new design incorporates both A pillar seals and the Header seal as a single unit, most modern convertibles have their seals set similar to
that, MX5, S2000 to name a couple. The ultimate solution replaces your header seal and A pillar seals in one go.
