Front Splitter?

Has anyone fitted a front splitter?

I can’t tell from the photo if it looks any good or not!

I thought Jamie had fitted one, but looks like that was just a different lip.

The original came from Walker rubber . it has been known for the Renault Laguna more rigid plastic version to be fitted.

Though i am sure Jamie will have found some alternative version .... probably Honda based !

I have fitted this splitter of the Esprit and it does look very nice. Much better than the original rubber skirt. Takes a bit of work with a heat gun and then trmming the ends a bit but it's a nice little upgrade.

The splitter of the S4 Esprit was no longer available until recently.
It is now remade by a few sellers, but it is rather expensive, especially for something that will rub the floor on too many occasions ... £120+VAT+shipping for a single side.
I wouldn't bother and would stick to the walker rubber rubber lip. Consider being lucky that it's available and cheap (the Esprit rubber lip (late V8) is more like £100, which is expensive but still much cheaper than the splitter)

I think I remember SJSportscar has them too — I suspect they all come from the same factory as they all surfaced at the same time.

I know I can get the rubber lip, I was thinking about something that protruded a bit more. Offer a bit of protection should one accidentally drive into something at bumper height.

There are TONS of universal fit front spoilers on ebay (like this one) that can do the job at a low cost and look better than the original rubber strip. Just search ebay or google for it - lots of choices out there.

This is the front lip that Jamie has developed to fit the Elan, not a splitter as such but a lot fresher looking plus it still retains the flexibility to cope with speed bumps and low ground clearance issues:-

A very timely discussion. I noticed how p_poor the one on Ribena is (while I was replacing the radiator - another story)

So, do I go for carbon fibre effect? There's a shedload of choices out there)

Sj have the fitting kit though i think it is missing the plastic retaining meccano like pieces (that my garage have lost ) So at present no front lip for me.

FWIW I have fitted them in the past without the Meccano pieces. Just use penny washers and coax the lip round the corner

I can’t say I watched the whole video but that’s not really what I want!
I’m looking for something that will protect the bumper should I, perhaps, maybe, accidentally drive into a concrete step in a parking space, for example.

I don't think the front spoiler lip was ever meant to do anything but look good. It might alter the air flow under the car, but it is just soft rubber that is set at the rearward end of the bumper so won't protect the bumper if you go over a high step or similar block.

A lot of people use "roll-up" garage door lip seals that can be found at the normal building supply stores like B&Q and are available in white or black. Several sellers on eBay are selling those at huge mark-up prices.

Maybe a set of "affordable" proximity sensors mounted in the front grilles would give you an audible warning?

Great find Jonathan, but you can get reversing sensor kits off ebay for under a tenner! Fitted some to my campervan : very effective!

Agreed, John, but all the ones I’ve seen involve drilling the curved surface of the bumper accurately. Not so easy to do, and takes away the original look. (For the record, though, I haven’t fitted either option to my S2).
