Just to add/clarify/stick my oar in unwantedly (pick whichever you wish)....
.... This project is down to the hard graft of Clemo for pulling it all together, and the goodwill of many others who have played a part in securing the necessary parts to ensure future production -
BUT
It is unlikely to be a 'quick job' to have them built and ready to go, for a variety of reasons, some of which I will try to explain.
First, these items are 'always' likely to be referred to as "Kurching Hoops" (as opposed to "LGM Hoops" or any others which have been made/built/designed) - and as such we have more than a simple duty to Simon & LEC members to provide 'something similar'. They carry (see what I did there??) his name, so need to be fabricated in the same way that he was happy to build them originally - and that means trying to get the original fabricator to weld up the tubes which will be cut and bent by the original supplier. This may be as simple as a confirmatory phone call with instant agreement, or it may not, we may even need to find an alternative supplier/fabricator who Simon is happy can deliver the quality demanded - they WILL NOT be supplied in 'kit form' for a bloke in a shed to arc weld together.
So, it may take a while to get them up and running (subject to minimum numbers, quoted costs etc etc).
Then there is the issue with the fibreglass hood deck and fairings - we have the molds for them (not to be confused with anything about the hardtop!) - this is a 'simple' laminate process, but will need to be done properly. As Simon did his own in times gone by, we need to establish a supplier for these - if anyone wants them to go with their hoops.
Then there is the fitting.... each elan is different, but we have been supplied with a set of 'templates' for where to trim the fibreglass for adding the bars - obviously, the operative word is that it is a single set of templates, so can't be sent with every set of hoops - and if sent out to be returned (or sent to the next fitter) there is always the risk of being lost in transit, making life difficult - I am going to try to replicate them when I get time, so this may be a 'non-issue' anyway if it is simple enough.
I'm sure that there are other considerations too, but that's enough for now - the imortant thing is that progress is being made towards getting these made again.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
