I can only say, my M100 makes my eclectic Lotus collection over the years very complete. My wife likes it the best since it is the most civilized SPORTS car we own. We can get in and out with ease. It has a large trunk. It has air conditioning. It is a convertible. It is nearly maintenance free and VERY reliable. It is zippy quick and handles superbly. On spirited Lotus drives with other Elises and Esprits, I'm right on their tail. What more could one ask of a Lotus????

Hey, there's probably only 300 left (i'm guessing) roadworthy here in the states, and I own one of the best. Anyone can have a mass produced Porsche, Jag, etc., or any of a number of other sports cars out there, but I know I have a rare and significant example of Lotus history.

You definitely hit on the key point -- it's all relative. If you've only ever had a bicycle to get around and one day you find yourself the owner of a beat up Yugo that actually runs, you'd be one happy bunny.

The Elan was so many notches down from my other cars, I was pretty much forced to sell it since I don't have unlimited time to work on and drive my cars, and my wife hated riding in it because of the interior compared to our other cars.

But now that little Elan is in the hands of the next owner, and hopefully many more owners for many more years to come!

then don't go outside the USA, because the rest of the world's Elan's front bumpers are even shorter than ours!!! Only the Federal car had the bigger, longer nose treatment!

Very true! The short nose looks terrible to me. I really like the Esprit-like look that the long US nose provides. Over in the UK, most of them hate our long nose look. Mike Kimberley said the short nose is the way it was intended to be by the designers, so the long nose was an afterthought. Usually I always prefer the ROW design difference of cars, but not this time.

To my eyes the long nose is a bit weird because it's not totally tangential with the rest of the hood. Or at least that what it looks like from the photos.

the word "truncated" = shortened ends? at least that's what came across in your post

Ted, your wibbly-wobbly interpretation isn't working here so let's just agree that your linguistic fantasy is incorrect.

Please do not try to put words into my mouth.

I do not like the view from the side - that's it - the side, please do not conflate that.

(unless you are looking to buy my car in which case I agree entirely with your dream sequence).

Ted's is a reasonable and civil nterpretation of what you wrote and the discussion. If you disagree you might at least practice the tolerance that you preach.

Truncate definitely means shorten. And side view is side view.

Do you write Trump's follow up denial speeches??

Some interpret words differently from others - they are obviously incorrect when they do so.

Okay, Plan B now, I will keep the car, cut it in half, stick some fiberglass and metal in the space behind the seats and then join the two halves to make a Plus 2 version.

Feel free to sneer at that. :poke:

PS, still looking for where I said the car was "short, snubby, the nose and the car in total is". :banghead:

You are aware that I do not live in Mr trump's country I hope? And I cannot comment on ANY of his speeches as I have never listened to any beyond the time where I hit 'mute' or change the channel. Nothing personal, I do that with all politician's blurts.

Maybe if they could all truncate their speeches I would listen. :D :D

It made the FED registry twice: Once from Lebanon NJ (8300 miles)and once from Princeton NJ (6841 miles). No other details so the info probably came from "For Sale" listings.

Another thing!!! Very annoying...you can't just go for a simple drive on a nice day in this car - as I did today...as soon as you stop you are bombarded with questions and anecdotes about the (insert british car here) they owned and enjoyed.

(not really)very annoying even though I grudgingly admit I enjoyed the chats.

I had forgotten what it was like owning a Lotus. :D

First we had he original Elan, then we had the Plus2
Second gen., the M100, so an M100 Plus 2 = M102 (math was never my strong suit!) :D
'sides the 102 was the F1 car so I am claiming the M for myself. :D :D

Not that any of this matters because it is dampish today so the topless M100 stays home, nice and dry.

I wonder what it is like to drive one of these with the top up...
