Gearknob

My gearknob needs replacing.

Does anybody know of any nice wooden or ali ones available for the elan?

Or the size of the thread on the shifter?

Strongly resisting the urge to do any knob jokes....

I had the one with the Lotus yellow and green logo. If you think it might be suitable let me know and I can always take a pic of it in situ.

Sorry its taken a while. The weather has been a bit meh and it flattened the whole of the back fence so now we have sweeping country views

The gear knob was easy to fit and it comes with a number of inserts to suit any gear lever. I was concerned that it might wobble but it has been solid for a year now and I only had to tighten it up a bit more after the grub screw was proud of the ball and kept catching on my fingers when I changed gear. Once its flush its all fine. Its a matter of taste but it suited my steering wheel that was put in by the previous owner. My only gripe is that the light reflects on the logo so most of the time you can't really see it so in hindsight I'd probably go for the black logo version.

No doubt there may be some other members who have other styles.

Hello Artaban, I have a quick question regarding the installation of the gearknob: In order to fit it lower (as seen in your pics), did you need to cut part of the top of the aluminum stick? Or this gearknob fitted all the way down with no need to cut anything? Thanks!

Original gearknob is quite tall so gear lever is shorter than you might expect. Just change the knob and a shorter lever results...

Nothing other than taking the old one off and putting the new one on. Just think it looks a little better as a shorter gear stick

And in the Winter you will need to get a little cosy to fit over it (or some gloves) 'cos that thing will be chuffing freezing! .

I don't have any experience with that specific part but the M100 isn't listed in their car list. The threads are likely to be wrong, so you could end up with something to display and not use.

When I had my X1/9, I turned a wooden gearknob on a lathe. It was brilliant - a bit bigger diameter than a standard gearknob, fitted the hand beautifully and - with a couple of coats of satin black - very hard wearing. Cool in summer and warm in winter as well.
