Hi Dave,

Are you just going straight there this year, or a bit of a road trip via most of Africa and dropping in on the way home????
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

No round trips to Italy and France this tim, but may book the Premier Inn, Malmesbury the night before for a meal and a few drinks.
Camping - No way. I like a bit of comfort.

Good luck with that - the nearest Premier Inn is 7 1/2 miles and one county away, in Cirencester :D

We do have hotels and B&Bs, though; happy to provide suggestions if necessary.

Maybe it was a Holiday Inn we stayed at last time, but if you have any suggestions I will look them up. I do know it was on the bypass road out to the circuit.

Ah! I think you may be thinking of Chippenham, Dave. There is a Premier Inn there, and it’s on the bypass, opposite Morrison’s. However, it’s also about 12 miles away from Malmesbury, which is where the Friday night events are based, and where the convoy will leave from on the Saturday morning to the circuit. Depends if you want to be the life and soul on Friday evening or not   :gathering:

For those interested in staying in more comfortable accommodation, George Guthrie PM'd me saying he was possibly going to stay in a Travel lodge on the M4 northbound, a couple of miles from CC

M4 runs east-west at that point, so he’s probably thinking of the Travelodge at Leigh Delamere services, between J17 and J18. There is a separate Travelodge eastbound and westbound. The eastbound one would be on the north side of the motorway, but I don’t think there’s direct access to the back roads to Castle Combe from the service area. You’d have to go on a couple of miles to J17, then up towards Malmesbury, and back west to the circuit. Anyway, no doubt all will become clear at the end of May :D

A Belgian woman took an astonishing 1,800 mile detour through six countries after her car navigation system went wrong.

Sabine Moreau, 67, had intended to drive to Brussels from her home in Solre-sur-Sambre to pick up a friend from the train station - a journey of just 38 miles.

But she took a catastrophic wrong turn and eventually ended up 900 miles away in Zagreb, Croatia.

It’s from the Daily Mail, so it must be right. One of your relatives, Mark?

Yep that sounds like me! I did mean Chippenham. Still I don't seem to get lost normally.

I got lost in Bordeaux once and must have spent 2 hours looking for a hotel that was 5 minutes from the motorway exit.

By the way I saw the wheeler dealers M100 episode on Youtube. Liked the mod Ant did to the exhaust and will order a set of stainless bends to do it myself.

The campsite is extremely comfortable and welcoming. Great views to Malmesbury, spotless showers and bogs and only a 7 minute stagger to the Smoking Dog beer, cider, banger and burger festival :drunk:

If you mean re-tubing to get rid of the squashed section, it was put there deliberately to restrict the system. Without it, the exhaust flows too freely so the wastegate cannot control turbo boost levels properly.
Many of us have had larger exhausts fitted which have created boost creep. This can be left alone (because more boost is more power). You may consider this a good thing, but it is worth being aware.
Another option is to port the wastegate so it can cope with the extra exhaust flow.

Thanks rip for the tip.
When I fitted a new section supplied by Paul Mattey's it rattled on the chassis as it was too close so I done the simple thing of taking it back off and a bit of heat and a tap from a hammer to give it a bit more clearance. I suspect its just a problem with aftermarket parts not being the exactly as per originals.

The car is remapped to 200bhp so I don't really want more boost.

Dave, I booked a AirBNB. It was a lot cheaper than a hotel and is close to the pub

Funny enough I was planning to do a continental trip in May too. :D To celebrate my 50th, 10th wedding anniversary and my cars 30th I've taken inspiration from the M100 Development weekend test trips to Rome. I've not worked out the route yet but I have 6 weeks unpaid holiday booked off to drive to and around Italy (been recommended Holland, Germany, Austria). I realised it should actually be a lot better to do it in September/October, great weather and smaller crowds. :-D
