That’s the plan, Geoff. I saw Merlin on Monday this week, with fairly good results. Since then, I’ve been tied up either magistrating or house-clearing (if anyone wants part of my mum’s National Teapot Collection, please let me know ), and I want to speak to Europerformance tomorrow. Then I’ll post a “please confirm” and we’ll place the order. Merlin quoted 8-10 weeks, so we should be fine for CC.

I’m also on the case with the reducer piece. Alan in Edinburgh has lent me his original (Amber) one, and I’m arranging for a local fabricator to make some up for us S2 folks.

Quick update on this thread: I've spoken to Merlin, and also to Europerformance (EP). Waiting for a final price from EP, because at the moment it's looking as though Merlin will be cheaper for the premium colours, but EP for standard colours, which would be awkward! Will update further as I get news. Still set to have them ready for distribution at CC.

Right, everyone, we're good to go. I've had several conversations with Merlin, and also spoken to Europerformance (EP). EP promised me they would come back with prices, but haven't done so. However, I've used their quoted prices to 'persuade' Merlin to offer a slightly better discount

The Deal

- This Group Buy is for a full set of Samco cooling system hoses for Elan M100 SE or S2, from Merlin Motorsport
- Samco part no TCS330/C
- Hose clips are optional.
- S2 owners may require an aluminium reducer piece, which is NOT included. I borrowed one from ab2cv and have turned a replica up on a lathe from a piece of aluminium bar. I'd be happy to arrange for a batch to be produced if anyone can suggest a tame metal fabricator - I can't find one around here willing to do a small batch
- Prices are based on us ordering at least 10 sets, but more is better. We can order as many as we want at this price on this Group Buy. If you order separately now or in the future, you'll pay the full price

The Prices

- Standard colours (Blue / Red / Bright Green / Yellow / Purple / Black / B.R. Green / Orange): £300 per set (saving £41)
- Premium colours (White / Pink / Classic Black / Gunmetal Grey / Viper Red / Silver / Samco Blaze / Urban Camo / Solar Orange Camo / Ninja Green Camo / Lightning Blue Camo): £352.62 per set (saving £40)
- Hose Clips (optional): £40.25 per set

All prices include VAT, and there's no carriage cost as I will collect from Merlin. Onward postage to you will be by arrangement and at cost, or you can collect from me either at home or at Castle Combe in May. The LEC postal service may also be able to help.

The small print:

1. The hoses are made to order, so there's no opportunity to change your mind once the order is submitted
2. As this is a special order, and to get these prices, we had to agree to paying up front. To safeguard you, I will pay Merlin by credit card, so we have some comeback in the unlikely event anything goes wrong. You'll need to pay me by PayPal Friends and Family or bank transfer. I will issue a receipt for each payment received, and both pinky and clemo know where I live I'm sorry it has to be this way, but I really can't afford to carry the cost of three grands' worth of hoses myself
3. Note that Classic Black is a premium colour at the higher price. Feel free to change your order to standard black if you wish

I won't add another post but just wanted to say I agree with what Dave has said below. Really great work Jonathan and I really do appreciate you doing this. I've been eyeing up the samco hoses for a while and to save a good wedge of money on the purchase is fabulous. Hopefully get you a hotdog or something at CC

I have no input with this endeavour, but have had occassion to 'organise' GBs before (and it can be a thankless task at best of times). As such, I wish to extend thanks on behalf of 'the community' to Jonathan for taking this one on.

Hi Clive, just to be clear: at this stage, I’m NOT providing the reducer pipe as part of the deal. It’s unclear from the comments on here whether it needs to be a reducer, or whether a straight through connector is OK - or whether it’s needed at all. I haven’t been able to get a definitive answer from anyone who’s previously fitted the kit. If it’s straight through, easy: Merlin stock them and I’ll pick some up when I collect our hose order.

If it’s a reducer, that’s more difficult, although I think GeoffSmith did find (and post on this thread) a suitable one on eBay - I’ll have a look when I get a moment. I haven’t yet been able to find a local fabricator to turn a batch up for me, although I made a rough one myself as a test.

Hope that clarifies a bit, and I’ll keep trying to get a final answer.

Hi Chris, good questions.

First off, the Federal hose set is different. You need this one, which has 14 hoses, not the 13 of the UK cars, and is a different price. I haven’t discussed with Merlin whether they could offer a discount on this kit.

If you buy through the Group Buy, you will pay VAT, because I’m the person ordering, and I live in the UK, so I’d have to pay it. I guess you might also have to pay US import taxes.

Based on several estimates, postage for the set of hoses (excluding clips) looks to be UKP 40-50, depending on exactly how much the package weighs and what packaging materials I need. I’d send it for what it cost me, so it might be a little cheaper or more expensive, but that’s my best guess.

EDIT: Samco have a number of distributors in the US; see this page. It may be worth asking them for prices as it could end up cheaper in the long run (bottom of the page fo USA).
