Replacement gas cap

Just wondering if anyone knows of a compatible gas cap in North America. I haven't found one in any of the auto parts sites yet. I figure there is probably a more common car that has the same cap.

The reason I ask is I left the cap on the trunk lid and drove away. Not my best moment. I tried a search but it must be called something else in Europe as there aren't a lot of topics on "Gas Cap"

PS is that a standard ie OEM petrol cap ?

PPS your door to rear panels/rear deck shutlines look awfully big. Is that just an optical illusion or do I need to go to Specsavers ?

You're right, but it's a convenient place to keep the lawnmower fuel.

It's OEM for a 2006 Nissan Micra. And an OEM VW cap will do the same thing… unless you want to retain the originality.

It's not an optical illusion and (as the medical profession have told you on many occasions) it's as good as it can be for someone of your age: The door and stowage hood are both open.

That doesn’t look like any Elan filler cap I’ve see before. Do tell where you got it. As the age of owners increases we’ll probably all need one, as we’ll either forget where we put it, like Don, or forget why we came to the Shell station in the first place.

John - I got quute a few a couple of years ago at Donington. SW Lotus were virtually giving them away so I bought some and.... well, gave them away. None left, unsurprisingly

You mean you finally got to the end of the set of spares for when you forget them at the petrol station?
Just to pass on a tip, I find that a bit of string between your gloves and passed up the arms of your coat does wonders for not losing them.

In nearly 40 years of driving I've never lost a petrol cap. Or left one lying in a petrol station. Despite never owning a petrol cap with a rubber band

PS I know, but the gloves on string was very useful when you were at infant school. So what about your beanie (that's Scottish for woolly hat ie "yer beanie" or "yer bunnet") John ? Is that held on "yer heid" by a bit of string ?

I recently ordered and installed a Motorad MGC-835T fuel cap with tether from RockAuto - picture attached.

I attached the tether to the lower screw on the fuel door hinge, with the tether routed rearward to prevent it sticking out below the door when closed.
The cap hangs below the wheelwell during fueling.

That is a good find though. Is there a cross reference for items like this to live for people like me. I know there is the one on Golden Gate club but it's not updated.
