The place looks big enough for at least 80-100 covers  Imagine the bill when it arrives. Total disaster as per normal :?

If it's a set menu then it may be worth considering a fixed price, to cover the VIP meals, tips and kitty replenishment.

Good idea Geoff. Saves faffing about at the end and the usual embarassing calculations when you find you're £32.16 short despite everyone putting more than they're due into the final pot :?

Yes, I agree it is a good idea.
For the food.

It's the drinks that cause the problem! :drunk:

Yeah, and our guest VIP's will probably be drinking the best champagne (OK, Asti Spumante or Blue Nun) the Indian have :drunk:

A 'fixed' menu may not be to everyones' taste, but a 'fixed price' menu would definitely be the way to go.... okay, it won't include everything on the menu, but as many of the dishes on the menu are a similar sort of cost, and it makes life so much easier for the chef, it can't be that hard for them to come up with a slightly more limited selection of starters, mains, rice, naan to cover most tastes (including veggie) at a fixed price.

After that, if you want a side dish (I do like a Saag Aloo), then you pay extra, puddings for those who want them, and pay for drinks as you go - seems simple, but as I have been the man sorting the final bill on previous ocassions I know that it is never a quick and simple process, but such an idea may help!!!

:agree:

Good suggestion Dave as ever.

Pay as you go drinks will definitely significantly reduce end of evening collection issues, especially as there are some who hardly drink and some who.....well let's say take the opposite approach.

Are they able to provide a fixed price 'Buffet' for us? People can help themselves and if anyone requires anything additional then they can
pay separately for that. Pay as you go drinks individually best option.

Oooh, a buffet! - I like the idea of that, it keeps everyone happy (wish I'd thought of that idea).

I completely agree regarding the drinks. I’ve had evenings turn a bit sour due to difficulties setting the bill...
Fixed price menu or buffet sound good if possible.

:? Isn't a buffet getting back to a fixed menu ? it could end up a bun fight
The menu is available on line www.spicemerchantrestaurant.co.uk/menu.pdf
If everyone knows what their having and how much it costs, you can have whatever you what, we won't all get on the same table.

Chaps, just to clarify things: as the bod on the spot, I’m currently talking to Khalil at The Spice Merchant about what will work for all parties. I’ll update this thread as soon as we have a plan, which is likely to be the middle of next week.

:) I'm sure we will all support you as "the bod on the spot" in whatever plan you and the Spice Merchant come up with

With 38 people i think it is a good idea to listen to "our man on the ground " Jonathan . . LEC has never been a dictatorship but given the complexity of the night and the fact we need to add to the coffers . We need to iron out any potential difficulties whilst pleasing the masses .

We are all here for a good night out with guests ... I have a cunning quiz night plan which Jonathan / Saltire is aware of but he is ( thankfully ) helping out . So lets see what he comes back with an then go from there ...

Thank you all for your understanding on this ..
