Back on thread topic, I have an (as yet) undiagnosed drivers window fault. Press the button and nothing happens. Is it a switch, is it a relay, is it the motor? If there's time, I'd like to try and find out!

Well, as this thread has gained lots of momentum (and neither Clemo nor I started it), perhaps it is a good time to say that whilst we (or, at least, I !) am happy to try and help people out where we can, the weekend is fairly packed, and I missed a hell of a lot of Hethel by 'tinkering'.

I have no desire to spend 24 hrs a day fixing other peoples' cars when the fault has been there for a while, and things could have been done before (or after) the event.

Obviously, if anyone has a problem on the day (or something which can be diagnosed and fixed quickly), fair enough - we are all happy to help out.

If anyone is really interested, I have one window switch which only works if I remove it from the console and operate it - and one window which Clemo had to pull up by hand whilst I operated the switch when leaving our digs at Hethel......

as such, I shall be doing my own first (unless I get it looked at this week), and anyone who wishes to observe the process to encourage them to do their own at their leisure will be welcome.

When Phillipe had an issue, it was necessary to fix it to get him home to France, and what could have been a temporary repair by jamming a block of wood in the door turned into a proper fix only because a set of motors were availlable on the day - so, yes, we are quite happy to help to get you home - and anyone who wants to bring things and ask how to approach a job will be more than welcome and (if time allows) a helping hand - but we ain't a 'free mechanic' service.

As the old saying goes, "Your failure to pre-plan does NOT fullfill the definition of MY emergency".

Alan,

It could be a switch or relay issue..... it is something which can be checked and isolated quite quickly, so I'm happy to have a look at that one with you. Have you tried removing the switch, and shorting out the wires on the back - if it works, then the switch is duff, if it doesn't then it is further down to line. Another thing worth a quick try are swapping the 2 relays over and see if the problem swaps to the other window (and/or swap the switches over) this should tell you whether it is a switch, relay or motor issue.

Why can't we just have a whisky tasting clinic. It's much simpler

Easily arranged. What would be the most convenient time for my window mechanism to break on Saturday? Morning is better for me.

I've got most of the front suspension in my kitchen waiting for the paint to dry. If I bring it with me can you fit it?
Or is that excluded as a preexisting fault?

Bring it with you anyway I'm sure dapinky will tell you where it goes.

Drivers side needs doing but I'll watch the master at work to see how to do it.
