Saturday lunchtime: Parade laps

Postby GeoffSmith » Tue 21.05.2019, 11:39

Three parade laps are scheduled to begin at 12:30 and are well worth doing. Castle Combe is a lovely flowing circuit and the laps are taken at a reasonable speed but with a strict no overtaking rule.
By 12:30, we should have 3 VIPs (Mike Kimberley, Barrie Wills and Peter Stevens) with us and it would be good to know if anyone has a spare seat to be able to offer our guests a ride.
I guess this calls for a list:

Happy to provide a spare seat, and for it to be the drivers’ seat if one of them wishes.

Barrie would love a drive as it's 31 years since he last drove one.
In addition, enright (who is chauffeuring the VIPs), his son and his son's friend would probably appreciate a seat so if there are any more, please put your name on the list.

Mike would also love a drive. Given that Trevor stood down for IB10 at Hethel last year, I think Mike should drive Merlot.

In addition, enright (who is chauffeuring the VIPs), his son and his son's friend would probably appreciate a seat so if there are any more, please put your name on the list.

In fact laps are taken at such a high speed that a certain LEC'r managed to spin his car

Maybe Barrie should drive Geoff's car to show him how it is done :burnout:

Happy for any of our elite VIP's to borrow the keys of The Black Beastie. New Goodyear boots as well which will only have done 375 miles by the time I get there. That silicone oily stuff will have been nicely scrubbed off on the M6/M5 by then

If one of the VIPs wants to drive my car they'd be welcome. I fancy the parade lap but with less than a years actual driving experience it might be better to have someone else behind the wheel.

I'll have a spare seat - unless I can persuede Phillipe to pilot me round, in which case I'll be in the passenger seat with my eyes closed....

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

How about us chucking our keys in a pot then picking out another set and ending up with someone elses car. Could spice things up a bit :burnout:

I've been to those sort of parties before and it never ends well :-D

Not me just plain old grey, but I have cleaned them, probably first time in 27 years! :D

:o What a privilege. Merlot needs to be on her best behaviour and of course me too. :)

Seeing as AlanE gave up his slot for me as a featured car what about Peter Stevens going with Alan?

I'm hoping to do both some fast track sessions and the lunchtime parade. I know a mate is hoping to meet me there for breakfast so I expect my first session is taken...but if anyone fancies a "spin" (I hope not!) as a passenger later in the day then just say if/when you see me. While the parade is open to all, for faster laps I'd have to sign you in, you sign away your rights, and you need to be fully clothed (!) - arms and legs covered, no flip flops! I'll have a spare helmet (size 57/58) or you can hire from the circuit. I'm not the fastest out there by miles, but I've been going to this event for nearly 30 years so at least I know my way around.
