Winners and losers

Postby Rambo » Tue 28.05.2019, 22:14

During the talks on Saturday by MJK, BW and PA there appeared to be 3 winners of the 100 cars amassed at Castle Combe

Who were they ? And were they known LEC'rs ? And what did they win ? Was it just a certificate

I know there was a guy in a race suit and a Collapso red. But who ?

Any further details Jonathon ? Clemo ? Dave ? Geoff ?

Well Geoff was a winner as he stole my T cup but then ended up a loser as i later stole it back . In the mean time i had taken another coffee mug so i was now the owner of 2 drinking vessels and a winner . By the end of the day both marked cups ( marked on the underside "clemo" and "now clemo's ex geoff" cup ) had gone missing so i was a loser . So i took a further 2 new clean ones for myself and went back in the winning camp . Smug with myself i was until i got a PM from Wayne reminding me of the 2 x Mugs he had ordered . So i think out of that i am still a loser. As Geoff has 36 mugs and i have none. Though technically he has 18 T cups which were my design and 18 Coffee mugs which were his design . So maybe that equals itself out ?

As for the cars . They won a full HD colour 10 x 32 flat signed limited edition certificate and by the sounds of it a mention in Mike Kimberley's book.

They were

1x Aqua Blue S2 . Best S2
1x Red Se "H" best overall
1x White "G" opera glass Best SE

I have phone numbers for them and will be giving them a ring for photos .. as ... er .. due to the streamlined nature of the LEC photography department nobody took a photo of them .

Sorry if I have upset the balance of things Dave. To be honest, I have no Idea of what the T cup design has turned out to be (as I'm a coffee drinker). I'm happy to reduce or increase my order to suit. I did love the design I saw with the cat on skates logo and Elan 30th anniversary. I did think that it was spoilt by all of the Elan silhouettes that were overlaid. Dave, I'm happy to give one of my mugs to you. Or buy a used one. I'm up for whatever helps out you.

I bought in as to buy a piece of forum history and to help give some money back to the free website that has helped me out for over 15 years of Elan ownership.

I could probably just have mugs made to my own design if I wanted to. But happy to go with a group buy that will help out the club.

I think that anyone who was there would agree that we were all Winners overall, but to address the original question, the Award Certificates were commissioned especially for the event by Clemo, with a specific design specification to make them unique (they had the date on them!).

The request was passed to the design department (who were in sunny Spain) and eventually landed on the desk of the International Reprographics Department (based in Wales).

Due to the short lead time, it was personally handled by the Chief C&B on the night before departing to CC for personal delivery.

The design was produced, heavy-grade media procured, Hi-Res printed and packaged on the morning of departure (I found a pack of certificate paper and chucked it in the inkjet machine).

Each certificate was signed in genuine Gold (coloured ink) by MJK on behalf of LEC.

It was a sublime combination of a great keepsake of the day, with a nice autograph, whilst fullfilling the original design brief of "something cheap and cheerful".....

As for the mugs, there should be an unacounted one somewhere as I originally orderd 2 tea and 1 coffee, but only took 2 in total as they are the same (I only paid for 2, but if we need to shift some more, I'll pay for the other one as well).

One mug will go in the garage, whilst the other one is now living in the display cabinet sporting a nice personalisation from MJK.

Pint glasses were the only bit which seemed disorganised on the day... the LEC Retail Manager ran out of stock quite early, and the Gopher couldn't access the Warehouse to get more (They were in Geoffs boot, or probably his house and I couldn't find him!)

When i returned to my 'stash' of purchased items I discovered that my glass had been re-sold to someone else, but I got one later when the Warehouse re-opened.... unfortunately, too late in the day to get it signed  (I had to wait for breakfast).

Weren't the organisers pushing the boat out a bit far with the gold (coloured ink) It must've cost all of £1.75 to buy one of those gold pens

Well there is a little story behind how the design turned out . I will let Geoff fill in the blanks .

As for my cups I've got a box of bits to pick up from Geoff so i am not at loss in any way. The above was said in the standard leg pulling toward Geoff the cup nicker.

Oh and i seem to be 1 x gold pen up ... I win .

Being a good steward of Geoffs sangria fund (previously known as the LEC kitty), I funded the purchase of the pens myself (£1.75 for gold and silver from fleabay) - and a further £1.49 for the silver 'paint pen' for writing on the mugs etc.

It's a good thing that I'd been saving the pennies from my meagre pension......

 I went home feeling like a winner :D
Lesley would probably say that it was a couple of day's of her life she would never get back
(I'm sure she enjoyed some of it, once the tent came down she definitely perked up).

I felt like a loser when I parked under that tree for the Sunday morning breakfast only to find it covered with sap laden blossom
It was like evostik in rain form ! I had to give it a hot soapy wash as soon as I got home ! even my feet felt sticky on the pedals
