GREAT WEEKEND Castle Combe 30 / 20 .JOB DONE

Postby clemo » Sun 26.05.2019, 20:41

Well what a grand entrance we made! A big thank you to everyone ... what a great weekender .
100 .. yes 100 M100's in attendance and boy did we make our presence known. Whilst waving you all in from the very impressive convoy ( Thank you Enright / Geoff ) i could hear the general chatter of the other Lotus owners saying things like " I've never seen so many of them" and "they are going to need the whole carpark if there is any more " So yes we got noticed alright . So much so that Alan Morgan at Club lotus had to give us two parade laps as there was too many of us to put on the circuit at once.

A Big thank you to Jonathan who we leant on very heavily for all his local knowledge and contacts that helped make the day come together very smoothly ( though behind the scenes had plenty to deal with )

Neil who became chief chauffeur . Though he thoroughly enjoyed himself , gave long hours to run our vips around.

Nchase & S2 , Trevor & Merlot , Justin & IB10 for letting us use their cars as show cars . They represented us well and looked amazing.

MPX Mike for his hot laps , Edward for the use of his car for Barrie . Trevor again for his use of car with MJK .

Pinky & Sarah for their outstanding catering and everyone that contributed towards it with their time and tea bags .

Wayne in Bahrain for the box of goodies to sell and everyone who donated to the kitty .

And of course our Superb guests Mike Kimberley , Barrie Wills , Philippe Adams and an added bonus of the true gent that is Warren King who all made an outstanding contribution to entertain us .

But most importantly YOU , every one of you who turned up and made the day possible . A gathering is nothing without the people and us lot at LEC get a real buzz out of just standing back and watching everyone chatting , smiling , eating cake .

Who would have thought that a 30 year old car could bring so many people together and a permanently free to use website of 20 years would become such a great social hub. It has grown from small car fixing club into a yearly social club ...

Everyone take a bow and pat yourselves on the back .
We all did this .

OH and Geoff . So many phone calls and emails and he still nicked my LEFT HANDED TEA MUG ...

( apologies to anyone i have not mentioned by name , you have not been forgotten , I'm just trying to write down all of a busy weekend).

Till next time .

Just to say it was a great weekend and well organised.
It was good to meet everybody and the guests gave us good stories of the period.
We may have a clash next year as its the historic Monaco again.
Our next outing for Ann's M100 is the Cub Lotus Welsh weekend in July.

And the party didn't stop after the breakfast

The last 3 standing - Muley, Spud and myself - continued the great w/e with a cultural tour of Malmesbury, a mini pub crawl, watching the F1 in that rather strange pub at the bottom of the high street, sampling hand made pizzas and even got chatted up by a couple of rather nice blonde Wiltshire babes who were obviously stalking us

And then there was the racing on Monday at the CC circuit, which unfortunately I had to miss this year

Can it be bettered ? I doubt it. I never thought we would exceed the number of M100's back in the day at Donington but we did. And to make 100 in one place is probably a world record which will never be bettered. And very fitting that Warren King's car was the 100th M100

Well done again the organisers. And thank you Mike, Barrie and Phillipe for your talks, stories, humour and company. I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did

Roll on May 2020

Incredible weekend.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Met some friends from last year and made some new ones too.

So busy chatting for the whole of Saturday I didnt notice there were other models of car there! Also missed/forgot autograph opportunities :banghead: I did enjoy a chat with Mike , piecing together more interesting info on IB10, and Barrie too. So that was special.

My wife Elaine asked me what it was like this year ,
It was like our wedding day . I knew mostly everyone there but only had a brief chat with some , had a tick list of places to be and things to do during the day. A cake was cut , photographs were taken , short speeches were made and before i knew it the day was over. Now I'm looking back at the photos and seeing how well it went down and reading all the messages. Wish i was now flying off for a few days rest .

I don't know who could possibly have done that ... or at what time it may have been adjusted .

Looks like it couldn’t have come together much more appropriately. Gosh that was a piece of luck!

(Or maybe some people in LEC made the luck!)

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Reminds me of a Proclaimers song entitled "I'm gonna be (500 miles)" Good tune.

"But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles
To fall down at your door" (in your case, insert fly for walk)

Incidentally, I termed the Clan McElan© phrase back in 2006 viewtopic.php?f=28&t=5818&hilit=Clan+mcelan&start=20 and Big Erch stole your design and hence that smart, but faded, T shirt you were sporting on Sat. We should sue him for breach of copyright©

We had 87 with us and the infield after 11am as a further 5 had turned up from the west lotus owners club. There were also 12 to the rear. We peaked at 99 . I thought that was pretty amazing. It was only that Mike mentioned Warren King's car it became 100. That was just as we were leaving the track at almost 6pm. Till then and all day is was 99.

The dyslexic branch of the McLeans were around a long time before that, even though they were banished from these shores for bringing shame on the clan:
