Drain - petrol filler recess

As the filler recess fills with water I assume that the drain from the bottom of the recess is blocked. Have tied to clear using a flexible plastic rod but will only go in for about 3 inches before it hits a stop, I assume bend in pipe.

Anyone out there had this problem and solved it?

Where does the drain come out so that I can perhaps attack the blockage from the bottom?

Ian - top tip. Try a compressor and air line to blast the sludge through. For a more manegeable option try a bicycle pump and a football adaptor

Or for a slightly less aggressive method, a syringe works well (or a turkey baster) - either filled with air or clean water.....

.... a cheap method is to use an empty washing up liquid bottle....

I use a vacuum pump to suck it out because there is a design flaw in that the initial rubber tube is L shaped and has a smaller bore rigid pipe pushed into it so muck that goes down the rubber tube will not always go down the rigid pipe...

My own thoughts had been down the tyre air pump route after a "broddle" with some flexible plastic rod had not worked obviously due to the L bend.

Will hopefully have time at the weekend to resolve

"Blown" and now running free.

Will have to add a regular flush through to the maintenance list.

I use the earth core from 1.5mm twin and earth. Clears easily and confirms its clear by being visible under the car once its all the way through.

Put fuel in mine last weekend and noticed the fuel cap recess full of water, so blocked drain, used a bicycle pump with a football inflation needle connected could just about hear air coming from underneath, few good pumps later and drain clear, checked it was draining under the car rather than inside the hood compartment. Did try with a fine wire to clear it but this only went as far as the first bend in the drain line so using the pump seemed the best solution although didn't want to use an airline in case I blew the connectors off.
