Lotusrepair, When I get back to the UK in July I'll look into boxes and packing and international shipping. Paypal (as friends) works without excessive PP fees.

Geoff,
When you return in July let me know as well, and you can add one for me for shipping to my US address.

It looks like the most cost effective way to post to the USA is with one order for multiple packages. The cost of shipping is GBP15 (down from £30+ for a single package!) if anyone else in the US would like a couple of mugs.

Re: Mugs

Postby GeoffSmith » Thu 10.10.2019, 21:28

Today I nearly lost the will to live. Having bought a load of bubble wrap & build-your-own cardboard boxes, wrapped up all manner of items, weighed & measured them and supposedly optimised the postage particularly to the USA and Canada (with the added bonus of collection by UPS), I entered the names, addresses, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, customs information, etc. on Parcel2go.com, I then pressed update and the price shot up to £300! Something to do with the initial price assuming the parcels were all being delivered to one street/town/county in the USA rather than coast to coast and anywhere in between. Several hours and BSODs later I was ready so entered all the information again until I got to DaveIOW. Parcel2go say that Hermes don't deliver to the IOW so they stopped the whole bloody process and I had to start again. To rub salt into the wounds, I managed to send the parcel to the IOW by Hermes. Then I realised I hadn't any 4 address labels per A4 sheet so it was a case of trim the top off some 8 per page sheets, print them out then carefully reassemble the bar code on the parcel. It was dark, cold and drizzling when I took them all the the dropoff shop to get them all scanned. I got a handwritten receipt for 25kg of parcels but when I got home I fortunately checked and found that one parcel must not have scanned properly and was not listed as received. Fortunately after a phone call and a couple of hours, it showed up as received so mugs, pint glasses and a few other goodies are on their way - so sorry about the delay but we got there in the end.

I am well behind on packing the car for Spain so I will not be chasing anyone for donations. The kitty details should be visible here (if they are not then drop me a message) so feel free to make a donation at your convenience. The average postage to the USA and Canada was £15, Europe was £10 and the UK and IOW was £3. It may be best to wait until you get your goodies before contributing in case they don't come up to expectations or are damaged - there is token insurance cover but it doesn't cover glass… or ceramics. We were hoping for donations of about £10 per mug or pint glass but if you wish to put in a bit more or less then that's fine.

Sorry about all this Geoff, Hermes, DPD, Parcel Force all deliver here next day exactly the same as every other County in the UK.
The problems usually arise when some muppet thinks we are in the Channel Islands or God forbid the Isle of Man!
