Urgent need of a fuel tank B100L0087F

Postby RichardK » Sat 21.09.2019, 03:44

Well, I investigated the strong smell of petrol when filling the tank to the top this week.....yep, poking around with a mirror, light and phone camera it appears the filler neck is pretty much detached from the tank.

if anyone has a known good tank (either side of the pond) that doesn't leak I would be extremely grateful to hear from you.

Yes I know DVB has extortionately priced, unknown status ones on eBay right now, was hoping to avoid....

Off to get 4ft of wooden block, stands and jacks.....ekkk!

Please PM or email

Cheers

Richard

P.S. I guess the next fib may turn out to be "the timing belt was changed".....gawd!

I was in the market for a tank recently and shopped around. Lotusbits offered the best price for tank and shipping to Australia. In the end a local plastic welder worked his magic on it. Four cracks all fixed and stronger than new.

Ebay selling one.
Apollo is on here somewhere.

Here’s the link. Bit pricey though.

I had a split neck. I bought a replacement from eBay and that was split too. I ended up getting a new one from SJSports. Not sure whether they have anymore but I think if you can't repair and need to buy a replacement I'd ask a lot of questions of the ebay seller before paying out for shipping etc...like have you tested it doesn't leak!

I agree and it’s one of the reasons I chose to get mine repaired rather than ship a S/H replacement half way around the world at considerable expense. Mine was badly cracked in two places, and previous repairs had not held up. The two vertical cracks were roughly along the track of the two support straps and I suspect these had been over-tightened. The straps have a locknut arrangement, which I think is a clue to how they are meant to work. Support only, not excessive pressure which would result from nipping the straps right up to the bodywork. . My plastic welder said he was pleasantly surprised at how “solid” the gauge of the plastic is. Plenty of “meat” to work with compared to other tanks he’s repaired.

Oh dear. This was my plan for this winter, and now it seems they're impossible to get hold of!

4ft wooden block?! Is that how high off the ground the car needs to be to get the tank out?! Ooof, this is going to be a tricky job.

I'd better get planning and buying tools/parts for the "fun"! :D
