I hate seeing that too. Hiding the no. plate implies they don't want you to see the MOT history. Also, you can't carry out your own personal HPI check

I'm not sure about his 'terms and conditions' whereby he states that whoever buys it isn't a 'consumer' under the protection of the Consumer Protection Act 2015......

Yes i have watched them on several occasions over the last 12 months on ebay and i would definitely steer well clear. They were selling a blue elan +2 last year that kept getting sold and then reappearing at different prices.With a £500 non returnable deposit and a bulled up description every time things dont ring true to me

To me on this forum you have always come across as a genuine guy and deserve credit for not breaking this car. You have been good to your word on this car and IMO its realistically priced. The history of this car is well documented on this forum and you purchased it through it.

There is a reasonable chance that someone would be interested after reading the background on here. Hence it shame that you have chosen misrepresent the situation by stating a spurious reason for selling although I note its the same one that you have used in the past. In addition presumably when somebody turns up at your house to buy it, your other Elans and stash of parts will also give the game away. Just seams shortsighted and unnecessary. Just wondering if its because you want to give Ebay and perhaps others the impression you are not running a business, although of course limited trading is permitted without any tax liabilities.

You state in your ebay advert that "There is no warranty or similar as its an old car but I'm hoping my feedback demonstrates I'm an honest person" giving the impression of a private sale. . However you are registered with eBay as a business but you have added in capitals at the top of your address "NOT A BUSINESS". You have numerous listings for car parts many of these for Elans so appear to break cars on an industrial scale. You have sold a considerable number of Elans in a relatively short period of time and every time you do, you state that the car is not suitable for your needs - why you would you repeat your mistakes.

In this instance you have purchased a CAT N damaged car and rebuilt it using secondhand parts in your procession and have driven a 100 miles in it and are now selling it. You posted the photo below on this forum some time ago clearly showing trade plates suggesting that you have or at the time had a traders insurance policy. I am not "making up what I dont know" but suggest these could be the actions of a trader masquerading as a private seller which is a criminal offence.

Trade plates were the re-sprayers. They delivered the car back. If you actually looked at the comment below the original post you would of read it was just back from the painters. That's why it has no number plate on it at all. It was freshly repainted and I was so excited I took a picture.

Not sure about all the Elan's I have sold. I remember 3 others in the past 10 years. Yes I've broken a few initially because I struggled to get parts for own cars. Made a few quid (not much) on the side but is that so bad.

Enlighten me on the complete ones I have sold ? I remember a yellow S2 5+ years ago, Green S2 more recently and a red Elan SE I decided to sell as a project. That's all ever.

E-bay give better selling rates if you set-up as a business BTW. You will also see most of my parts are actually VAG. I was involved in the race series and am currently restoring 2 MK1 Golf GTI''s. Again, I bought a rear damaged white MK1 to use as a donor car and am selling stuff I don't need. It makes the process more economically viable.

TBH its become a hassle selling the Elan. I'm in two minds whether to keep it or break it....

Yes that's the problem with Elan's. Fun little cars and I can't resist a bargain. Believe it or not I bought that as a non-running parts car. All that was wrong with it was the owner had accidentally knocked the battery cut-off button. Couldn't break that one. Last time I heard it was sold on again at a classic car auction. Was never a keeper, however. I've always preferred the S2. In fact, it was bought as a donor......
