Enlighten me on the complete ones I have sold ? I remember a yellow S2 5+ years ago, Green S2 more recently and a red Elan SE I decided to sell as a project. That's all ever.

Trade plates were the re-sprayers. They delivered the car back.

Displayed illegally, but we'll overlook that as it's not your problem

TBH its become a hassle selling the Elan. I'm in two minds whether to keep it or break it....

This would concern me personally, as you clearly stated to the guy you bought it from that it would be restored (within 12 months) and NOT be broken........ it was on that basis that he went ahead with the sale to you, and not to anyone else - and, yes, I'll declare a bit of a personal interest in this as I was one of those who 'bowed out' at that point as my desire was to see a repairable car saved for the future.....

...... obviously, a verbal "Gentlemens' agreement" holds no water on a legal basis, and the car is yours to do with as you wish, but it would leave a bit of a nasty aftertaste.

assurances he could fix the car, and backing that up by accepting to sign an extra contractual clause that a very substantive extra payment will be due to me if not back on the road in a year

I think we can all agree that it is too good to break, and I really hope that it finds a good home with someone who wants the car to drive and use and not just as an investment......

.....I don't think that there is any doubt that all work has been done to a high standard, using good parts, and that it is often a necessity to break a car and not repair it, so that many others can have an extended life.

you have chosen to remove your comments about breaking the car.

You posted on the forum at the time of purchase that you had agreed to pay a substantial penalty if you broke the car within 12 months and provided written proof. Guess what you have now owned the car for a year and few days and are threatening to break it. That says it all.

I have no problem with anybody making a business out what is essentially a hobby for most of us, but anybody who masquerades as an enthusiast when if fact they are running a business is my mind being dishonest. Your listing on Ebay for the Elan is a business sale so any purchaser has statutory rights irrespective of whether you state otherwise in the advert As a business seller you saved two pounds on that classified Ebay ad, hardly significant on £7,500 item. Perhaps you have been rumbled in the past and now have no option to list as a business seller.

I'm confused at the moment.... there has been so much editing, quoting, missquoting and deleting that I'm unsure exactly who was asking if I were either Columbo or Miss Marple (with alluding to the latter).......

.....clearly I am neither, otherwise I'd probably have already looked at the admin logs and seen who has amended their posts to hide the fact that it may not have been a brilliant thing to post.....

..... that's always assuming that I give a rats arse about what people call me - but I'd rather that if someone has something to say to/about me, that they have the moral fortitude to not say it behind my back, as at the moment, I can only assume that someone actually posted it, then thought better of it, and deleted it......... but they ain't quite as quick as the server hosting this forum.

Speaking from personal experience, test driving the Medina one may be problematic as w hen I went to have a look at the yellow one he had for sale a few years ago he wouldn’t take me for a test drive unless I put a deposit down. I was then classed as a time waster.

A common tactic used by disreputable backstreet traders but unusual behaviour for a private seller don't you think.

I must admit that when the member first signed up it appeared that they were interested in M100's. Given that this is an enthusiast's forum, help was at hand but then it quickly transpired that the newbie was not an enthusiast at all but someone who euthanized M100's. Whilst it has been pointed out that spare parts are handy, and that there is a market, to break a car that is restorable is not what this forum is about. Is it, therefore, any wonder they get short shrift from others?

The main issue for me is that the claims made are untrue (such as parts being "in the shed for over a decade" or that they are "out of these cars now" or "two seats are no good" (the second time that's been used ) etc. Quite simply, they are only an enthusiast about making money and the assertion that they are not operating a company ( ) is pure fantasy.

Clearly, they are becoming persona non grata (if not already) but that is, in my opinion, no fault of anyone on here, save for the individual concerned.

I note the test drive debacle above, but I hope the car sells then normality may return to this forum. I say 'may' as I suspect that there's a stack load of spare parts that haven't sold and which could be offloaded................but they may end up in landfill: "because I can"! It would be nice if a parts pool could be arranged but then that wouldn't make good 'business' sense!
