Hello,

Yes I'm well aware of the challenges, I've followed enough threads in the past 8-9 years to know that things aren't as straight forward as "Please make me two of these unusual things and make them cheap", "Oh yes of course we'd love to!".

I already got some rough price indications from LEDA for non-adjustable dampers (see above) and if they could match the damping characteristics of the originals then that would be perfect. However, I thought they were almost as expensive as the Nitron kit, and I thought (maybe wrongly) that people would probably buy the Nitron kit instead, making any effort spent with LEDA a waste of time. I certainly didn't waste more time on that, but if we do want to speak to LEDA again we can always go back to them. With hindsight I wish I'd posted that conversation here when I had it 7 years ago, because someone else might have done something with it then and we might actually have replica rear dampers available.

The other option is to get aftermarket manufacturers to compare their kits against an original damper and tell us the closest match in their settings to the OEM. Gaz have done that, but we still don't have that for Protech, AVO or Nitron. I don't have a good quality rear damper to send across the channel and I really think the person who does this needs to be in the UK, for no other reason than they have an address there where the OEM damper can be sent between tests. Again, with hindsight, if I'd kept making a scene on this thread for the past 7 years maybe keen LECers in the UK would have done that, but I think the issues is well enough known that continually bumping this thread is not necessary.

Anyway, for both the above options we need a rear damper in new or virtually new condition. I'm not asking you to send one from the USA because I think that would be too much to ask. I did track one down 7 years ago but never took up the option on it because I'd moved abroad, but again with hindsight I wish I had just got it delivered to my parents' to clutter up their shed even more than it already is!

Cheers :)

Hi all,

I did ask Lotus about giving us the info for remanufacturing and I got this answer, which was expected:
I have checked and I am sorry but we would not be prepared to share this information, which remains our intellectual property and thus confidential.

We are sorry for any disappointment that this may cause.

Cheers :)
