Fading Auxiliary Dials

Has anybody on here come up with a solution to the fading auxiliary dials, getting lots of light bleeding through (now I have them all working)

Lockwood dials, but people have had mixed results ie they tend to yellow with age. Metal Monkey used to make them years ago but I think that source has long dried up

Thanks, I've messaged them, I don't really like White dials though. I wonder how effective a Black sharpie would be?

Replace them with new, they are out there, i have a few as well as new instrument clusters and individual speedometers (new) in both MPH and KPH. I believe BCN also has them.

The thing is, just replacing with new seems terribly wasteful both financially and from a natural resource view point.

I belive it's better to repair where possible.

I don't like those Lockwood white dials either but, I guess it comes down to personal choice

I think that, unless you colour the whole dial in with your black Sharpie felt tip, all you will see is old black and new black spots. As esprit888 has mentioned, you could have obtained them via BCN, but he has chosen to take a break away from LEC

I know someone made a graphic for a computer file to be able to print off a dial 'face' for the (IIRC) Oil Pressure guage.....

....which is then overlayed on top of your current 'leaking' one.

I was looking at doing it for all three guages, but then decided to just buy the Metal Monkey ones (which are excellent)...... but no longer an option.

Looking like this will be another long term project to have on the back burner, perhaps try to find somewhere that can do low volume production of some aux dial faces.

I also have tried to go the 'restore first' route and had a V1 solution that was ~moderately~ successful using home printing, detailed in a previous post here. For V2 (after I actually get Rosie running), I was going to remove the remnants of the screen print (with some chemicals or as shown here) and prep the substrate for:

A) $ -Spray paint the substrate Orange and then use a home or office printer to print the Black portion on a 'Clear Adhesive Backed Inkjet Film' overlay

B) $$ -Get a custom vinyl sticker print on top

C) $$$ -Get a new custom screen print, like from here

I also have a vector file I can pass along if needed, and could probably mock up the other dials as well if someone wanted to try one of these other options too. Would love to get to a reasonable solution that works in day and night!

Who are you talking to please? I spoke to them last week as I’d like a set of all the dials in white but in km/h. I have a set of slightly non matching dials which are setting off my twitch!

I wanted to try open up the boost/oil/elec dials as the paint was so cracked when the lights were on couldn’t hardly read the gauges.
Wanted to open them up but they look to be sealed units. Thinking of dremmelling around the two parts to open up but wondering if it will work and then gluing back together again. As mentioned they do work and reluctant to do it. In addition when I bought the car was lucky to have original new lotus oil and electric gauges to hand so only needed to buy the boost one at £45 for new OEM. Prob sell the old ones as is
