Dyeing Hood Inside

The inside of out hood is patchy & faded, has anyone here successfully dyed the inside of their hood please?

Not inside but I have refreshed the outside very successfully on both cars every couple of years. However it can be a bit messy, but gravity is working with you, whereas on the inside it could get very messy. I suggest you try a spray

I use Renovo black soft top reviver. If your hood is really dirty, as I guess it will be, try removing any algae, green gunk deposits etc.. with a hard bristle brush first then clean the fabric with Renovo soft top cleaner

Used Renovo on the inside and it came up a treat. Difficult to stop drips but as well as dustsheets, I used a small brush with a container held under the brush and took my time.

Used the Renovo cleaner, dye and waterproofing on the outside of mine and came up great, not sure I would trust myself to do the same inside but I suppose if it wasn't too dirty you could just apply the dye with a sponge and cover the interior with plenty of dust sheets. The dye does take some removing if left to dry when it goes in places you don't want it to I have a white car so know only too well!! Looks great and is a great product though.

And a word of warning....

Do NOT use this Renovo black dye if there is the slightest chance of rain BEFORE the hood is completely dry. Put the car back in the garage or cover with plastic or car cover if leaving outside, just in case !!

I would definitely second that statement I did mine during the Summer time when dry and sunny and even then it probably took as long to clean the car off afterwards as it did to clean the hood. Renovo cleaner is great and for the hood that is good unfortunately all the muck stains the car so needed to wash off, then apply the dye again even after very careful masking and application it still gets on the paintwork same for the waterproofing fluid (worse as it tends to run off) then when dry wash car again and spend a lot of time polishing the splashes off the car. Well worth doing as hood looked like new but a real pain to clean up from especially on a white car.

Oh and definitely make sure it is properly dry before getting it wet or it will end up like a sixties model in the rain.

Believe it or not, this stuff even looks messy if you get a couple of drips on a black car Much worse on the lighter colours obviously. White would be a nightmare. NMY was not much better

Take the hood and frame off of the car, open it out and turn it upside down - Bob's your mother's brother.....

I bought some Protex canvas dye to see how well it worked. It says on the bottle it will need two coats, but I'm pretty pleased so far. Applied with a 1 1/2" paint brush. It'e pretty good stuff, not so thin that it flicks around inside the car, but thin enough that it doesn't leave brush marks.
