Replacement roof

Postby alexherb » Thu 29.10.2020, 11:54

Hi All

Apologies if this has been asked before. Has any got any recommendations of someone that can fit a new roof to my Elan M100? I have not got the time to do it myself and the current roof looks awful.

Once roof done project complete!

Cheers

I don’t know where you are in the country, but it mIght be worth speaking to Allon White in Cranfield. They don’t specifically mention M100 hoods on their website, but they have done lots of M100 trim work and are generally well-regarded.

I bookmarked this site a while back. Don't know anything about them but the price is good. Must be using your original seals

Never heard of them, sorry - and I used to live not far away.

It might help people to advise you if you put your location in your profile - no sense in recommending someone in Sussex if you’re in Sunderland :D

To do this, select the ‘User Control Panel’ link at the top the page, then the Profile tab, and ‘Edit Profile’. Part way down the list, you’ll find ‘Location’.

Don’t forget to press ‘Submit’ when you’re done, or your changes will be lost.

thanks Saltire.....good tip! Profile updated.

Also I'm sure you are spot-on about a week then something else, But got to say it really is the most reliable little car! Starts each time at first turn of the key even after weeks in a cold garage. Did a 400 mile round trip in it the other week and it didn't miss a beat!

Had a weird fault for a while. Had the pirate headlight issue with one popping up and the other one not. Re-build motors and checked position and couldn't see anything. Then leaving a pub the one evening I started the car and then turned headlights on (normally used to flick lights on then start engine) and hey presto light popped up perfectly - nice eureka moment! Light just need a couple more amps from the engine running ;-)

Lots of Elan cognoscenti across Essex, so you’re in good company!

Re the headlights, could also be a loose/corroded connection or a bad earth. Check the workshop manual (under the ‘Manuals’ tab at the top of the page) for details of where to find connectors and earth points.

That second link works fine. That's a pretty good price for supply and fit I would have thought. £1k inc VAT?

And only about an hour away from the OP?

I’ve had no personal dealings with M100hoods but others have and reliability and customer care appears to be an issue. If I wanted a new hood then I’d probably look elsewhere.

Hey, at least you asked first - so no harm done! Unfortunately, many people have been 'had over' by SVS - he is (or used to be) an active member on here and started out doing good stuff to his own benefit, and also to the rest of us - then it went south and he had a series of problems which led to reasons and then to excuses for delays.... before simply going off the radar and refusing to reply to any form of communications - keeping money that had been sent to him.

If you actually look at the ebay adverts, they are all a few years old, and have simply 'autorenewed' on the site.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Hello all,
just a note to say I purchased a new hood for my S2 from M100 hoods about 10 weeks ago. Spoke to them on the phone, were very helpful....paid and the hood was delivered 2 days later with fitting instructions and pack of fittings. I haven't fitted it yet, but looks a good bit of kit...I'm pleased with the hood and the service. Hope this helps...I have no affiliation to them.
Best to all, George.
