2020 wasn’t horrible, thanks to LEC
While I’ve been very fortunate with the health of my friends and family, it was still a tough year, and even more so for countless others. But if you are reading this, then I’m happy you’ve passed your hurdles and made it too (just 1 hour left in 2020 where I am). For me, the consistent bright spot this past year has definitely been the Elan and the LEC. Special thanks to LEC because: I’ve met several new friends (or really good chat bots); I’ve been amused often from the “common tongue” vocabulary lessons; I’ve learned so much about the Elan, Lotus, and automobile repair in general - I literally couldn't have done it without you.
Since it has been exactly a year of LEC membership and Elan ownership, It seemed fitting to close the year out with some reflections.
Highs (which couldn’t have been possible without LEC support): Finally fixing the gas tank; Getting the engine out; Riding around for the first time.
Lows (which I overcame with support from LEC): Hearing the knocking sound; Thinking I had a burnt exhaust valve or HGF or both; Thinking the prongeron was unsalvageable; Thinking the ECU is dead*
Best purchase: Breaker bar, $21. Makes you feel like Archimedes the Unstoppable (force).
Worst purchase: Impact wrench, $200 (not including the air compressor). Takes a lot of setup which kind of cancels out the ‘time savings’.
Most controversial purchase: Non-Lotus Head Gasket
Expenses for 2020:
$3,000 for the car
$2,500 on parts
$2,000 on tools
Miles driven: 19
Months behind schedule: 8 (it’s always amusing to look back on what I thought I knew at the beginning of the journey: Just a minor cosmetic restoration

)
