At this current time of lockdown, I find myself increasingly drawn into Facebook (pointless) arguments...

so what caused it prior to lockdown?

(My understanding was that the crimson fluid was tipped into the reservoir when changing brake fluid so that when it was seen at the bleed nipple you knew the old stuff was out

I think that it was just Castrol branded brake fluid, I have seen it as the specified fluid in several manuals.

Magnetic switch in the glovebox surround; light comes on automatically when you open the glovebox

Well, Simon, I’m sure someone somewhere has done it before. But I needed a12v battery supply anyway for the radio memory, so it was easy enough to run the supply on to the glovebox, and I thought “Why not?”

Not at all.... we just expect to have approval sought prior to doing any work (paper applications go to Clemo, electronic ones to Smiffy).

But in reality, a full write-up is expected to appear in the Wiki (or on the project thread) to help someone, somewhere, at some time.

Of course, none of this ever happens, so you can just carry on.

If said judgement does come to pass though, Keys can be left under the driver's seat and the location of your car sent in a PM to me. Newbie's get all the unwanted chores.

And Dave; it’s a deal; I’ll sort out all my notes and photos and try to turn them into some logical order. Mind you, I’ve never been successful in uploading anything to the Wiki, so it may just have to stay on the thread.

The Wiki uses a type of coding which isn't what many of us are used to....... it is fine for those who grew up with a Sinclair ZX81, but not so much for anyone who has only used Windows 95+. (there is no WYSIWYG view)

Personally, I find it easiest to create a single document on the laptop (words, pics, whatever) and then save it as a .pdf which I then load onto the Wiki as a 'document and link'.... or send it to Smiffy!

ZX81? Modern rubbish! I started my working life writing Assembler programs for a room-filling IBM360 mainframe. On punched cards I worked out recently that my iPhone is about 70 times more powerful than the IBM, and about 45 times smaller. Good job cars aren’t like that . . .

And on to the next step . . . The last two major jobs on the S2 are the seat retrim (which I’m NOT going to attempt myself) and the window refurb, which - with much trepidation - I am going to attempt.

Before I start, please does anyone have a source for the two sizes of scrivet used in the doors? There’s a large size which attaches the lower part of the door card, and a smaller size which fixes the cover plates in the two apertures behind the door card.

And before anyone says “SJ Sportscars”, yes, I know, thanks, but they sell them singly with an enormous mark-up for VAT and postage, and I’d rather just buy a bulk bag or two if I can.

Otherwise if anyone’s trodden this way before and has a record of the sizes, I’ll approach it that way, but I’d rather get the parts before I start disassembly..

I used 8mm scrivets from Speedy Fasteners for A100W6481F.

I drilled the holes out to 9.5mm and used M5 rubber well-nuts with 30mm button-head setscrews.....

Good day today; I finally had a chance to do a longish shakedown run, following the engine rebuild last year. Here to Winchester, 130 miles, top down all the way. And the car ran almost faultlessly.

Part way back, it started throwing an intermittent CEL. Ran an ALDL check when I was back home, and picked up a 14: coolant temperature high. Not really surprising . . .

The other issue which raised its head (literally) is that the headlamps popped up of their own accord - and stayed up - when I switched off in my driveway. Went down again hand have stayed down) on cycling the light switch. I’ll waggle the pod delay module in the morning if I get round to it.

Apart from that, all good.

Not keen, Mark, thanks. If I had another Lotus at the moment, it would be a 2006-7 Europa, ideally an SE - although I do like the look of the new Emira.

We’re having a bit of a daily driver shake-up. My Golf has gone, the boss fancies a Mini Clubman to replace her XC40, and I’ve put a deposit on a 5 year old BMW coupe.

I missed a lovely example from Will Blackham (WillB to many on here) about 3 to 4 years ago. I was too late and it taught me the salutary lesson of "if you want it, go for it and don't hang about" I would recommend you contact Will if you are seriously interested as he has built up a very good reputation in Lotus circles and has made many useful contacts over the many years he has been trading. He still occasionally has some very good examples of the M100, all usually well priced

In fact, I missed a really nice Europa some months ago at Hoffman’s in Henley. Like you, I was just too late, and it taught me a lesson - which is why I jumped on the 440i yesterday
