CC 2021 - what are the chances ?

Postby Rambo » Sun 07.02.2021, 21:08

Do you think there's a remote possibility that our annual LEC meet up will take place at CC at the end of May 2021 ?

Its still showing in Club Lotus events and the Whit Monday racing is still scheduled on the official CC website

I know it's still early days but just wanted to stimulate a bit of discussion on a dismal February day :burnout:

I was speaking with Alan a couple of weeks ago, and as far as he's concerned, it's all steam ahead for 29th May.

Would be great to think it is possible.
It is outdoors so might not have the restrictions of an indoor event . Same goes for the smoking dog and camping.
Is it time to provisionally book the campsite ?

Smoking Dug is under new ownership according to our man on the ground. Hopefully Bungling Boris will ensure it is open for us

What is this "Smoking Dug" to which you refer?

Being from the Land of Dragons, I have heard mystical tales from long-ago times..... and some referred to a place called "The Pub", but my memory isn't good enough to say that I have been to such a place (definitely not since last March).

Anyway.... looking on the Burton Hill website it states that they are opening on 1st April, and gives a list of their 'Covid 19' rules (all pretty standard/sensible.)

Being a campervan owner who is likely restricted to 'staycations' this year, I have been keeping an eye of campsites in the areas we intend to visit, and have noticed a distinct upwards trend on pricing. Whether it is due to lost income last year, or the fact that there is a bit of a captive audience with international travel curtailed, or a bit of both, I dont know.
One site (or actually all sites in the area) around Snowdonia are now charging £40+ a night (campervan, 2 adults, 2 dogs - no electric), whereas we used to pay £25-30 (just an example).

My point being, we may need to 'book early' as Fred used to say on the TV advert, as they may well have a reduced capacity.

Burton Hill is slated to open on 1st April, with suitable precautions in place.

No news on the pubs as yet :-(

The Smoking Dug (Scottish for dog) is the pub at the bottom of Malmesbury high street. The same one you have been in for the last few CC meets  It was a Butcombe pub but is niw under new ownership and/or has a new manager

https://butcombe.com/pubs/the-smoking-dog/

Camping, in general, has been getting more and more expensive these last few years and Burton Hill has always been busy that particular w/e as it is an English bank holiday. 2019 was considerably busier than 2018 >> 2017 and I expect 2021 to be no different once the caged masses are allowed out to party again

Mark,

as my comment has apparently gone straight over your head, I'd better explain in case anyone else thinks I'm senile.....

.... I am aware of the Smoking Dog ( which i may have visited for a swift half at some stage of my life), but was somewhat having a dig at the complete and utterly ridiculously enforced Welsh Lockdown.

Since, I can't remember when, I can only leave my house to go and get essential shopping (or medical care), exercise has to be taken from my front door and returning to the same (I can't drive 5 miles to a deserted sandy beach to walk the dogs, but I can walk to it, via Pembroke, and thus increase my chances of collecting Covid).... but at the same time I can drive 15 miles to Tenby to donate blood (passing the same sandy beach on the way).

However, my neighbours have just had their son and DIL visit for the weekend (as they are in a Welsh bubble, apparently!) - no problems at all.

Before I get slated for being an "anti Covid believer" or similar, I am completely in favour of lockdown, but do believe that the Welsh Government have really got some of it wrong. How can households be allowed to mingle when I can't drive 5 miles to a deserted beach for a walk (with just the 2 of us in the car)? Why can I not buy a new tea towel in Tesco, but I can buy a new kitchen in B&Q (which is 40 miles away)?

Anyway, I am going stir-crazy with one trip a week to Tesco for food shopping, and am looking forward to some normality returning at some point.

They reckon over 50's should have had the first jab by then, so that covers most of us. Just have to stay away from the under 50's!!

Then she can find out what you think, do, and say.
Zager & Evans fortold this in 1968 with their song 2525, which predicted we would have to take a pill every day to stay under control.
Now we just have a Covid jab every 6 months !

Had my jab last week, and ever since I have had this overwhelming desire to buy a MX5 Coupe !
I wonder if there is a antidote available ?

So it's true. Those they can't track because they're not signed up to FB on their phones get Bill Gates' tracker first.

It would be good if CC went ahead in 2021.

But I won't be attending, unfortunately.
