The event is "definitely" going ahead on Saturday 29th May 2021, and there are still 'some' places left for the actual track-day event.
LEC will be supporting the event in our usual way (ie, as an excuse to get together in a hot, dusty and sunny environment OR a cold, wet, windy muddy field) with a day (or weekend) of chatter, tea-drinking, tyre kicking, curry and a chance to get out and about with or without an Elan, or any other Lotus - we just don't care.
I will make a few other 'topics' for the usual items, and no doubt, some lists will be generated at some point.
No-one is forced to do any or all of the things, but everyone is invited to anything "we" add on here.
As the marque has no 'special birthdays' this year (except for the Elise turning 25, but with no particular group club), there is (was!) a designated space of prime grass going begging.....
..... Alan Morgan is more than happy for LEC to have use of this prime pitch (the bit we had last time, adjacent to the track fence, next to the Strawford Centre) to put up our usual gazebo and low-key cafeteria.
The day will follow the usual format (regarding track access) as previous years.... and there will be an opportunity to enjoy the lunchtime parade lap(s) for those who wish to. This bit is open to everyone (in a Lotus) without the noise testing and helmet requirements that are part of the actual Track Day.
We don't want to overstay our welcome and abuse the 'special relationship' that we currently enjoy with Club Lotus, so please don't expect us all to have an exclusive parade lap presence. There will be no 'official' convoy to start the day (unless one gets organised by someone!), no 'special guests' (unless any turn up!), no 'birthday cake' (unless anyone is having a Birthday, and one turns up!) etc etc.
BUT......
...... what we WILL have is a group of guys & gals who turn up, provided with tea/coffee, and (hopefully) made welcome by all of us.
No-one knows how busy the day will be, what facilities will be open at the circuit, or anything else (in relation to Covid restrictions).... but we expect it to be pretty much 'business as usual' - except it is down to Merlin to have their own rules within their shop, and the Tavern may well have rules which need to be observed.
I would hope that we are all so used to being 2m away from anyone, and wearing a mask inside, that things will go without issue.
"We" are not the Covid Police, but would hope and expect that everyone respects each others' space and doesn't feel upset if someone backs away from them if they feel it to be necessary.
There are no plans to spend the day spannering, but no doubt, someone will be happy to assist with any issues which arise on the day, and will have some tools available plus whatever spare parts we can find on the day.
Personally, I am making a weekend of it (along with Clemo and some others) - camping at Burton Hill, drive to CC, curry in the evening and home on Sunday.... don't know what is happening Friday evening, but have sent a message to the Smoking Dog to see if their music/beer festival is on or not.... we'll have to eat somewhere!
As to the 'usual' Saturday night curry - living in Wales, I am unsure about the proposed lockdown easing in Englandshire, so don't know how the seating capacity may affect us.... it may be that we have a few separate tables and simply order from the menu, as opposed to having half the restaurant with a set menu.... or it may be a take-away at the campsite (visitors welcome to join us!)
.... if only there were a local LEC member who visits the restaurant who could ask the questions.....
