At the moment, I know some are coming for the day, some overnight, and some for a couple of days.

Clemo has spoken with Burton Hill Campsite and ascertained the following info:-

They are going to be fully open, with (obvious) Covid restrictions in place..... all toilet/shower facilities *should* be open.

Due to it being Bank Holiday etc etc, and as they are trying to stay in business, they have a minimum length of stay publicised on the website, BUT as we have used them for the past few years, and Clemo speaks nicely to them, they will allow us to have a 2-night stay (Fri/Sat)

However, it is a busy period, and due to having to 'socially distance' people, they only had 4 pitches available in our usual 'back field'.....

..... these have been booked and deposits paid by Clemo (so blame him if you can't stay there).....

.... as I write this, they still have spaces in their main campsite, and will be happy to accept 2-day bookings for 'our group' - this may change in time.

So far, we have the 4 pitches booked for:-

1) Clemo/Lee
2) Pinky
3) Nick/Shelly
4) Steve/Lesley

This was not intended to show any favouritism, and there is no intention to exclude anyone..... it's simply that of the "usual campers" Jim is approaching Winter in New Zealand, Mark may not be able to escape Scottishland for the trip, John O is hoping (in vain?) to be sailing round the Med, Joao is now living in Durham, so not a local trip, Phil/Martin/Spud are happy to turn up and pitch on any small square of grass that's free at the time....

..... so if you fancy it, get hold of the site, drop Clemos' name and grab a bit of grass - you'll still be welcome to sit round a dimly-lit table with a roaring petrol stove for warmth (Phil!!) in 'our' field after a trip to the pub.


I am aware that Alan E has a booking at a local pub/B&B - but I know nowt else about anyone else's situation.....

If you don't fancy sleeping on a small square of grass and sitting around a dimly lit table looking at a petrol stove the Neeld Arms in Grittleton still have room £85 for twin room two people and £70 for a single both with breakfast included via Booking.com.

You could try Pettifers, in our village, which is where Mike and Barrie stayed for the 20th anniversary celebrations and we had breakfast there too. Subsequently refurbished and now reopened.

There’s also The Kings Arms in Malmesbury town centre, again recently refurbished. A little bit further afield is The Snooty Fox in Tetbury - never stayed there, but it’s a good pub.

I think the local B&Bs are not fully back in action yet, which is probably why things are a bit difficult.

If you’re still having a problem by the end of this week, let me know and I’ll put out some more feelers locally.

Dependent on budget and/or relevant distance from anywhere.....

....Travelodge are all open again now, and the ones at Leigh Delamere services are about £42 a night, with the Chippenham Town one up at £65.

I haven't looked on either Booking.com, Agodo.com, Hotels.com etc... but would expect there to be a range of places at a range of budgets. (or you can slum it with us and bring a tent to the campsite - if they still have spaces).

Titanium plate in my left ankle doesn't like cold so was waiting to see what weather was likely to be before confirming camping... I've now 'wimped out' of camping but found 2 nights (Friday & Sat) in the Campanile in Swindon was £71 so that's where I'll be.
15 miles to Malmesbury for socialising and 16.5 miles to Chippenham Pit Stop for Saturday Breakfast. Probably more rooms available for other wimps...

With it being such a long trip for us, we’ll be camping unless it looks as though it is going to piss it down all weekend.
If it is, we’ll probably bail as 220 miles each way, getting wet through isn’t fun for anyone!

190 miles to ' Combe for me. I'm pretty certain the Campanile price is for a Double Room, irrespective of occupancy, so you'll get better value for two of you in a Double.

If you’re coming down the M5, there are a couple of Premier inns in the Cheltenham/Gloucester area, and one in Cirencester, which would reduce the journey on the Friday. Cheltenham is about an hour north of the circuit.
