5th Gear

Hi there,
I have a problem getting the 5th gear when driving,
When engine is off and the car is standing still - no problem
but when the car is running the 5th gear can only be attained with a noise.
Any ideas?

What sort of noise ? My first reaction was "worn synchro hub" but how many miles/kilometres has the car done?

Whilst Phils' answer would be my first thought, I also recall a thread on the forum (or probably more than one!) where the problem with 5th gear was the large nut which holds the gear wheel in place had come loose.... it appeared to be more of a problem with getting out of gear, but it is a relatively quick and cheap thing to check/repair.

Does the same thing happen if you change gear slowly or quickly? Have you tried to double de-clutch on a change?

Thanks for your reply
the car has done 113000km
I also could only find previous topics where the opposite was the case -not being able to get out of 5th gear
I have tried changing gear quick, slow double clutch
it is kind of there every time...
its a metallic sound, as if I am not catching the gear correctly
The bolt/ nut sounds like a wort trying
Does anyone have a photo? -as I am not a mechanic...
