Hi Shaun,
I removed mine many years ago to fit a satnav unit in the space.
It is "just" glued to the rear of the fascia panel - but the glue was pretty solid. I wasn't keeping mine, so the fact that it cracked and broke wasn't a great worry to me - but I didn't want to damage the fascia, so took some care.
I ended up cutting it and getting a slim chisel between the lip on the housing and the fascia, then gently easing the two apart.
Without damaging the housing, I would suggest that the best way would be to undo the fascia fixings and then get a suitable tool behind and ease the two parts away from each other. Once it starts to separate, it is very simple to complete the job.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
