Sorry, gotta disagree 378S2. Here's my ecu holder; I don't understand why it runs either...

Commiserations Jayeme69. That was a mean, thoughtless fatherless person who did that. What a stupid...probably that desperate to sell parts from it tho'?

Having said that, I found that those multiblocks are not easy to remove from the ecu - and not that obvious to suss out at first sight.

Okay, that's just...just...I'm too mad for words (and it's not even mine). What kind of sick monster does that?
I've got an "extra" FED ecu that I'll let you borrow and (maybe just have if I can confirm my other one gets all set up). It should work for S2's I think (someone will correct me if not). It can't get an Elanscan signal, but it does run fine and will report back the engine dash error codes (in paperclip mode).
You've done more in a week than I have in 2 years ;) , so I think you deserve a lucky break. Let me know

You said you’re not a fan of wiring, but check these out: https://diy-efi.co.uk/product/speeduino ... -form-copy

The ecu map would be a little tricky I think

...nice gesture TorqueHorse, but I think it looks to be an SE not an S2...

Perhaps worth ringing around breakers. I've seen ecus (not m100s tho') offered on ebay that are chopped like this with the multiplugs still attached to the ecu. A 'sparky might be able to re-attach it?

I can re-attach it thats not a problem, its the £400+ for an ECU and loom lol

I'm still at a total loss as to HOW the engine can possibly run without an ECU - there will be no way for the injectors to open, the plugs to spark or fuel to get out of the tank....

.... and that doesn't even cover the control systems to get the sparks and fuel in the right time, place and quantity.

There is something going on here that I can't fathom - either there is another ECU system spliced in somewhere, or it was removed from the car since it last ran.

Highly unlikely someone would splice another ECU into the loom Dave, and infinitesimally unlikely that the person who was capable of doing that would then just leave a pile of snipped wires hanging.

Let's be honest here, look at the origins of the car, its just been through the salvage trade, been in the hands of traders / others unknown for who knows how long , already had bits nicked before or at Synetiq, whoever took the other stuff knew how much they were worth, that person would also have known the value of the ECU and plugs, I would bet whoever has those rear lenses also has that ECU. That sort of stuff
happens every single day in the motor trade, a car like that was ripe for an indescriminate trader to pilfer the high value bits, sold as a non runner and as seen in the auction photos, it's pay your money
and take the gamble, I watched it go through 2 sales on different dates, it was probably run up on the first sale by the seller, but at no time was I tempted to bid, it was blindingly obvious it would
turn into a money pit for anyone that wanted to restore it.

As you and I have both pointed out... how it could possibly run with no ECU is baffling. Anyone tried unplugging theirs and trying to start it yet ?

Sorry my ECU won't work for you :(

As to the mystery of the zombie engine...It sounded like he hotwired the fuel pump to supply pressure. And what about Bypass mode with the ignition module to provide spark, since it isn't getting any signal from the ECU telling it to stop?

Haven't gotten to how the injectors would pulse open though...

OK fair enough. Well, what about Matt's Fed ECU? I think (^think, don't know) that the difference between an S2 and an SE engine is just the O2 sensor which is missing from your turbo exhaust manifold. They are cheap and just one bolt to install (and a wee bit of wiring I suppose).

Still though, I think we all want to know how the Zombie Engine (TM Matt) is running!

Its only a short harness try Appollo on eBay and you already have the offer of a cheap ECU.

Just to add to Simon’s post, Apollo996 is a member on here with a PM and an email link showing against his profile. He also has many M100 items currently listed on eBay under the same ID, including what looks like the correct ECU for your car. I would contact him and ask if he can also supply the correct ECU wiring tails.

378S2 I'm sounding a bit 'notebook' but S2 has a 1499 ecu prom-id for O2 stuff, SE doesn't (look at wiki mountain chips...)

SE can be up-chipped, though, to 1499 via RonR's dual board (or other prom replacement?) and if an O2 sensor (and extra wiring, if necessary) are installed along with that non-Californian (I think) FED S2 ecu then emissions, smoky tail-pipe, smelly exhaust, mpg will be much-improved upon.

That could be the silver lining for the yellow 'special needs/wrong side of the tracks' m100 that we all need to open our hearts to :) - alongside Saltire's suggestion, of course...

As far as ECUs go - don't be fooled into paying top dollar (or £££££) for an "exact" match for your car..... the basic unit for ALL turbo Elans is the same, and only the MEMCAL differs.

The MEMCAL is changeable (simply plugs into a socket inside the ECU), or upgradable.

Either way, a FED unit will still enable a UK car to run (maybe not enough emission control to pass an MOT, but it will run) - and vice-versa,

A FED unit with an O2 sensor fitted to your car will enable the emissions to be well-below what the MOT requires.

If the car were mine, I'd see it as a perfect opportunity to fit an aftermarket ECU system (and there are many these days)...... but in your situation, a "borrowed" ECU to get the car running will tell you whether it is worth your time to continue or not. As for the ECU plugs, anyone who is selling an ECU has either removed it by unplugging it, or chopped it out if scrapping the rest of the shell - so there could well be a few around.

Davy Spencer will have all the parts you need (Trades as Apollo96 on ebay), but they won't necessarily be the cheapest way to get you running. You need to remember, he is a business NOT a philanthropic owner - and there is nowt wrong with that, we all need to earn a crust.

Yes he does but its £380 + £100 for a dash loom and i just cant afford or justify spending anywhere near that much ATM as ive just spent a considerable amount on parts already so unfortunately this project is going to have to take a back seat for the time being.
