Seats

Postby jgbff7 » Mon 12.12.2022, 17:51

I obtained a quote for retrimming my seats. The lead time was three months and I paid a significant deposit. When I delivered the seats after the three months I was told the work would start the next day. Five weeks later no work has been done and the excuses are wearing thin. So I have a car I cannot use as it has no seats.

One possibility is to get an alternatve set of seats. I have read here that the Honda s2000 fit. May I ask what other choices are possible? in particular would MGF seats fit?

Many thanks

Don't know about MGF, but the Merc SLK and Mazda RX8 seats have been fitted.

There is also a thread entitled Alternative Seats with some options.

A search on here will find the threads from people who have fitted these.

Just out of interest, who is doing the work John?

When/if the work is completed I suggest you don't pay the final invoice for 3 months or more :?

PS it might be that someone on here has fitted Honda S2000/Mazda RX8 seats and can loan you the drivers seat to get you going

I am grateful for both replies.

Inspire Automotive at Sleaford.

The Honda s2000 are well spoken about on here. The only issue seems to be the shoulder bolster hitting the B post but that does not stop the praise.

It has all been a bit of a nightmare. I live near Southampton and the trip to the trimmer should have taken 4 hours. But I was caught up in the M25 demonstrations and the journey took 8 hours.

Hi John,

I have a pair of Elan seats in my garage that you could borrow until yours are finished.
Being Elan seats there'll be no alteration to mounting points, etc, so it should make for an easy installation.
They've been there for a couple of years and weren't in great condition when they were put there, but AFAIK there are no actual holes in them. I might get them re-upholstered one day, so would want them back.
Did you keep your alloy mounting pillars and bolts?

Now for the bad news - I live just inside the M25, so that would mean another trip into the twilight zone for you!

PM me if you're interested.

Thank you so much.

I see you are in Bromley. I lived at West Wickham in the 50s and 60s.

I am hoping to get some sense out of IA tomorrow, so may I come back to you after that? Yes, I have the bolts and spacers.

Thanks again.

the fella that did my seats is located in Stafford.

hes a Vegan. so doesnt work with leather, but the quality of the vinyl he used on mine is really good. (and less cold to sit on by comparison)

if you find a non-leather alternative to be acceptable. i would suggest contacting him. he made patterns from my seats and probably can make you new covers without the need of the seats.

you shoudl be able to find him on facebook if you search for "GLTAuto"
i can send you the other details on he's card via PM if your interested.

Thank you for this.

I am torn between leather and vinyl. The Marcos has vinyl and is perfectly acceptable 50 years on and cleans more easily. Leather is original

I have been promised the seats will be done on Sunday and I hope that will be the end of the saga. What I find very irritating is to be told that a person is "very busy." Having paid for a slot three months ago I do not expect to be at the bottom of another list and still waiting after 6 weeks.

If all else fails I shall get some s2000 seats which are available on ebay.
