I thought the 5.1 had silicon in it which buggered things up and thus the 4.1 was the better option. Then again I may be wrong, it has been known once I think. ::)

Still no other better alternative as yet mate...never thought we would have a problem having upgraded.

Assuming it's dry :-/ and that we find somewhere suitable, anyone still mulling this over is welcome to try the car at Donny. (Anyone with a mad gleam in their eye may have to settle for being a passenger - shades of Catch 22! ;D)

Having been inspired by reading this thread, I have today fitted new grooved disks and Pagid Blue RS42's. Just bedding in at the moment, but they do feel noticably better than the standard/stock disks and pads that were on the car. Have used plenty of copper grease on the pad backs but have developed a slight squeal.

Anyway, only done about 15 mile so far...

Phil

Glad you are pleased with the new pads Phil. They should improve with bedding in and hopefully the squeal will also - this does not seem to be something that everybody encounters - mine were silent at first, then squealed for a few 100 miles, and are now silent again.

Yep, they are definately improving. The trip to Donington has certainly helped them bed in quite nicely. :)

Only a very occaisional squeal now too.

Phil

Nice new shiny blue Pagid RS4-2 blue's fitted yesterday. Just getting them bedded in according to instructions but already a big difference over the old EBC Greenstuff's. There seems to be a much better pedal feel and they seem to pull you up quicker.

Rambo.

Let us know what you think once they are fully bedded in. Mine only needed a couple of 100 miles, now I just forget about them they are so good.

I can also confirm that my RedStuff Ceramics (new compound for '05) are an improvement on the old GreenStuffs

Phil,

They're well and truly bedded in (<100 miles) and seem to be much better than the Greenstuffs. No squealing yet but much better pedal feel and I had far more confidence on Sunday when I had another 2 Elan's up my backside on fast twisty roads in the Scottish Borders.

Glad you are pleased, Rambo.

Sy, I wonder how the new EBC Redstuff work on normal Elan brakes, after all you've got 4 pot calipers fitted. The benefit of the Pagid is that they give such an improvement with standard discs & calipers.

I hear what you're saying Phil and I really don't know. I can only comment on the improvement with my set up.

3 months down the line, a further 1600 miles, and I'm still pleased to report good news about the Pagid blue's.

As other people have found, there is slightly more brake dust than when using Greenstuff's but this is easily removed on washing. Occasionally there is a very slight brake squeal but this also seems to come and go. Most of my passengers don't even notice it !!

The main improvements are breaking from cold compared to the Greenstuffs which seemed to work much better when warmed up. I can now lock up all 4 wheels - something I couldn't do before with the stock pads or Greenstuffs.

Well worth the money and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants to stop a bit quicker !!
