‘93 fed spec

I’m breaking the fed spec. ‘93. S2 turbo. All parts for sale. Upgraded brakes, good wheels, red body work, black interior. Engine runs well. Regular trips to the UK

Why are you breaking? Seems unnecessary if it runs well. What are the issues that cannot be resolved to keep it a runner?

Yes it's a shame because the car is fundamentally OK but the the economics of returning the car to the UK and work I would want to get completed means that the value of the car, to me, would be marginal. There are also regulatory and tax issues wiith the car being exported from France and imported into the Uk. It's easier to break the car and sell the parts off at reasonable prices to recover some of the costs.

I am really not sure you would have to pay much to register it in France as it's already your car (not VAT & so on unless I am wrong). I would imagine the cost of registering it would be quite marginal (it's a small engine anyway).
If you want to investigate a bit more I am happy to help (although I am not a specialist obviously)

I'm having a rethink about scrapping the car. The car has been "off road" in France, sorn registered in the UK for a while. Would there be any problem registering it in France if I can get the remaining couple of problems fixed. The normal registration period has long been overshot

I replied re import formalities a month ago.

Just thought I'd provide some useful info re importation/obtaining equivalent of V5 (carte grise over here in France)

- Surprised the Customs (Douane) haven't told you how to proceed! In theory, for the evaluation, you should be able to produce:
- a UK MOT certificate (if that's where vehicle has come from) with validity not exceeding 6 months
- a copy of the sales transaction (if purchased from a private individual or a garage) stating the value paid for said vehicle
- the original V5C certificate (proof of vehicle registration providing all information VIN etc)
most important : a French automobile expert's inspection report stating the vehicle's condition and an estimate of its value. Cost around 300€. This will allow the Customs to put a value on the car.

Once you've satisfied the Customs, you'll then have to pay the value estimated by them in order to obtain the 846A Form required for registering the vehicle over here (carte grise).

For obtaining the carte grise, the goverment agency ANTS will require:
- the 846A form (French customs) (photocopy)
- the original UK MOT Certificate (not exceeding 6 months) (photocopy)
- a newly conducted French MOT (contrôle technique) for the imported vehicle (photocopy)
- a photocopy of the original V5C UK certificate
- Most important : A Type Approval certificate from LOTUS (Andy Graham - Lotus Archives) - around 139,00€ pertaining to your Elan M100 (photocopy)

That's roughly it. Up to you to decide whether it's a viable transaction.
