Hi spec 285 discs and billet calipers in black arrived after three weeks. They wouldnt bleed properly when I put them on upside down,... but right way round they bled a treat.

Cannot believe how good they are!. The car now brakes like it goes. I am a happy bunny. With the money I saved by fitting them myself I bought 4 cheap korean tyres to keep my licence intact.
Jeremy

Been thinking about the hi-spec upgrade for a while but not acted yet! Did you fit any extras like hoses or pads? or "spacers" which everyone bangs on about, whatever they are?

Also, what was the cost?

Thanks in advance

Phil

And we are off again! This is your fault John [smiley=bebe.gif]

The Corsa discs still aren't big enough - you get back 2mm (radius) but you need 5mm.

Yes 5mm radius 10mm diameter. Some Elans give a smaller overhang (it can vary from side to side), but 5mm is required to be sure.

I'd advise against the scrapyard - we've pretty much researched this to death and I can tell you with near certainty that you won't find anything. We've been through all the standard discs available.

I reckon its the same old ATE caliper but with a carrier where the sliding pins are offset outward by 15mm or so relative to the old 256mm disc version - not really worth £100 especially since you'd need 295mm discs to use them!

Wasn't thinking of buying them but if the disc's are 288mm 24mm thick & 41mm offset with 4x100 PCD then it'd be nice to know what they are from because I haven't found any that size yet :P

Having 1275 posts doesn't make you look intelligent - it makes you look something but not intelligent ::)

I reckon the Regal discs are either modified, custom made or not exactly the same size as the V6 discs. They could be Alfa discs - they'd be a reasonably close match; they are 284x22mm rather than 284x24mm, the PCD is 98mm rather than 100mm and the offset is a bit smaller but since the disc is thinner and the mounting face thicker its no nearer the wheel and further from the caliper mount.

I told you we'd researched this to death didn't I?

I'll pitch a question back at you - if the PVD discs are 'specially manufactured' why do they need a hub spacing ring?

As to the Hi-Spec kits, they don't mention thickness for the 285mm disc but it could be that alfa disc again (or a modified 5 stud bit) and the 300mm disc will almost certainly be a modified 5-stud part. They charge so much for them they're just not worth worrying about.
