I was quite underwhelmed with it last year..... so will be firing up the BBQ at the campsite, and maybe walking up for a swift half in the other pub.

Talking to the campsite owner last year, it seems we really missed out last year. Her son that used to work in the smoking dog, moved to the Rose and crown and organised the music festival that we heard as we walked to and from the smoking gun. I don't know if the music festival is happening this year, but it might be worth keeping an eye out.

The Dog has been through more tenants in the past couple of years than I’ve had hot dinners . . .

Nothing announced for the Rose and Crown that weekend as yet, but I’ll keep my ears peeled

this is such a stereotipical british topic to tangent into... and i was going to put money on it... but no one wanted to bet

in fact. a LEC tradiction... shall we add a list to attend the "not pub crawl" ?

Hi Castle Combe '24 folks. I thought I'd take the opportunity to point out that I've just found the top thread in the attachment above by dapinky on 7th April '24 that has relevance to CC'24

Not a complaint but I only found it by accident after 'log on -> Advanced -> dapinky'. It wasn't in an obvious more mainstream thread.

Just a thought but I wonder if there are others that don't know about this search. eg for me there could be unknown rendezvous times/places etc that I could possibly miss...

ps I'm also wondering how many newbies might not have noticed that to find the 'Events' section about meet-ups they'd have to specifically log on to look for it. If an impending meet up reminder(?) was posted in the main unlogged section I'm sure the whole forum would see it.

Chris, I find the best way to see things is to use Board Index as home page, then click/tap on ''View active topics''. This is visible whether or not you are logged in.

That way you always see the most recent threads and posts.

i usually just refresh the "View unread posts" page from the board index.
it shows things that received replies from your last visit. that includes new posts or new replies. so assuming im all up to date, i get a filter with only the things that i havent read yet.

Yep that's something new I've learned, thanks, but I'm confused. There are posts in that 'logon->Advanced->dapinky' list that are not on this current thread thar are dated 7th + 8th April '24.

eg Meike, chris.t, Tuga 2112, alane, MPx,Saltire, dapinky on 7th April '24.................and Saltire on 8th April '24. I mean, there's nothing on this thread about the Meike conversation, for example.(Or am I having a senior moment? )

Grateful to find out how to get on this thread w/out logging on tho'

edit :- Ah...geddit...I found these extra posts for 7th + 8th April in a thread "M100 30th/LEC20th anniversary 2019" -> "RE: M100 35th/LEC25th anniversary?!" so no wonder I missed them (but will others find them and will there be any important info posted there that might be missed - or will everthing be on this current alane thread?)

All of those posts are in the M100 35th/ LEC 25TH anniversary thread, not this thread. It can be viewed (but not commented on) when you look at the ''View active topics'' as I suggested, even when not logged in.

Sorry about all the fuzz about the meeting stuff and such. Because I just saw the subforum of the 2019 meeting and didn't saw any new threads made this year (or reactions posted this year), I came with the thread I made with that suggestion/idea.
I think it's better to bin that thread completely because it's causing miscommunication and or confusion.

Would really love to attend the meeting at Castle Combe, but it would probably be a late call for me/us yes or no. It's doable, but a crazy thing to do if I've to work on friday and be able to work on monday again too. Still I could arange something maybe with work and come over that weekend and ...arrggggh part of my head wants to go badly and the other part of the brain says NO !

If you really want to cram your weekend there's a meeting at Brands Hatch that weekend, the Masters Historic Festival. I hope to be there on Sunday 26th with our local NKLG club and there are usually several M100s along with other Lotus on display and many Lotus racing. Link HERE. It's on your way back to the Kent coast just off the M25.

There is a white M100 in Findon and my black M100 in Worthing both not far from you.

It'd be good to form a local group - possibly under the SADCASE umbrella that's based in Storrington and has regular meets (including a 2nd-Weds-of-the-month evening meet at Amberley Museum) in the WSx area? Or WhatsApp?

I'm still a member of the WSMGOC and 'do' some of their meets. I stick cardbard MG badges onr the Lotus f + r to try to fit in (sad, I know... ) and belong somewhere Most of them turn up to SADCASE meetings too.

Well.. Brands Hatch or Castle Combe, on a trip overseas.. 2 hours (4 hours back and forth) is still possible.. but it will be really crazy as I've to work that monday (27-05) and a chance that will be a morning shift for me. So I've really to think about this

Right, this event is rapidly approaching, and nowt seems to actually be organised.....

....Smiffy is going to be in Spain, so isn't bothered....

....Clemo is DJ-ing at some rave event in Malta so isn't bothered.....

.... I've had a lot on my plate with getting my dad sorted into his new residential home down in Kent, sorting out the sale of his house and clearing it out at very short notice....

.... but now I'm back!

So - I phoned the campsite at Burton Hill, and (despite us using them for a lot of years), they didn't know we were coming, so have no space left for that weekend - not their fault, no-one had phoned them, so they can't be expected to hold on to saleable space on a Bank Holiday weekend.

Actually sorting out the space at CC on the day is never an issue (even if we don't get our 'usual' pitch, we will find a big enough patch by getting there early.

So, the issue is camping - or is it?

A number of years ago, Clemo and I just pitched up at the circuit on the Friday evening and set up our site (campervan and awning) in the field on the left of the gate we go in.... and Nick with his family arrived a few hours later with their caravan and we were sorted!

In fairness, we did enquire with the circuit beforehand, and they had no problems. There is limited facilities, although they did leave a toilet block open for us, and access to fresh water taps. No showers though.

So, at this late stage (4 weeks prior to an event on an expectedly busy weekend), we are short on options.

I am happy to speak to the circuit management to see if they will accommodate us (it was free last time, but with a few of us it may cost a bit???) - or failing that, does anyone want to search for an alternative site?

Obviously, staying at the circuit means no access to the pubs and shops in the town - but other pubs are a short drive away. I am happy to take a gas BBQ for the Friday evening if it is worthwhile, so you'd just have to bring your food and a few drinks and entertain ourselves. Saturday curry would be a 'driving' event (or taxi)..... or a different venue - except we all like the Spice Merchant and know how good it is!

So. that is the limited options I can think of, but open to suggestions.....

.... if all else fails, I'll just make it a day trip, but it seems a shame to not have a 'bit of a weekend' of it.

What a shame about Burton Hill
It’s too far for us to do in a day…
I can try and have a look for another site but I don’t know the area at all.
If I was only doing one night, the track would be ok as a last resort but two nights is too long without reasonable facilities.
The other option is a travel lodge/Premier Inn?
Or even an air bnb/apartment to share?

We m100-ers are a bit ‘thin on the ground’ and I thought it’d be rude not to try to meet up with the ‘movers-and-shakers of LEC’.

CCombe seemed viable for me so I booked a Travelodge room for Sat 25th May night - not knowing about any previous camping arrangements .

I’m still up for going unless attendance nose-dives, so I'll keep an eye on updates (tbh I can’t get over-excited about expensive Lotus owners screeching around bends...)

I know this doesn't solve the camping crisis but it'd be a real shame if this annual pilgrimage to kick tyres fizzled out (before I'd had chance to experience it...)
