Reading about the hidden potential nightmares with the sills really makes me think i need to check mine. I know its not difficult to access for viewing, but im more than a little worried at what i might find....

Reading about the hidden potential nightmares with the sills really makes me think i need to check mine. I know its not difficult to access for viewing, but im more than a little worried at what i might find....

its one of those things that the sooner you tackle them, the less you have to do. sure, like you, i was terrified of what i was going to find first time i done it. now, i have dealt with that in 2 cars, and still havent checked the NA for it.

ill be checking the NA in oct/nov this year.... loads of more pressing matters to deal with before that.

For anyone that doesn't know what state their outriggers are in, you really need to get your head out of the sand and have a look.
Even if your outriggers are in good condition, it's important to replace all the original sound deadening with closed cell foam.
The original sponge is the root cause of the corrosion because it soaks up water and it just sits under the carpet rotting the outriggers.
Don't forget the Elan isn't exactly famous for being water tight.

Youre both totally correct of course, and i will definitely add it to my list of Jobs to do for this year. I'd like to think they are in good order given the rest of the cars general condition, but of course i wont know until i pull back the curtain!
