Refurb Centre Console or replace?

Had to remove the centre console today in order to replace the radio aerial coax. Its now my chance to clean it up and resolve some issues. Mostly this means fixing multiple cracks in the centre console plastic. It seems that the remote sensor module for the central locking was fixed under the centre console awkwardly. Therefore there was inadequate support for the console plastic so it would bend and crack as it pivoted over the module.

Does anyone have ideas on how best to fix these cracks?
Or does anyone have a spare centre console in good conditon (i.e. without cracks) that I could buy?

This is for my S2 BTW, so a different centre console design to the main run of Elans.

Mind you, margaret_65 says it's made of fibreglass but I doubt that very much. Unless she has made a copy of the plastic OEM part ?

Thanks for your reply. I've seen the ebay ad, and I think its been available for a long time.
What I can't understand is how it can be used and yet the switchgear holes are all filled in and still need to be cut out. I might contact the seller to ask.
Of course I could try plastic welding my console cracks but I fear it will look worse and be just as weak as before.

The Ebay console has had the vinyl overwrap removed and the opening filled (no idea why!) You could repair your plastic section and re-wrap it in either a material that compliments your car or in leather, these have been for sale for a while, no idea if they are any good:

Hi all... tagging on the end of this trail: has anyone tried to re-spray (paint) the Centre Consol.. and if so where was the paint sourced? I think all of the car (most?) centre consols are of the same factory matt light-grey colour (I think.. never seen one which was a different colour). Obviously, loads of stuff on usual YouTube/Google.... is it as straight forward as it seems/looks??. ta Mike

Hi Mike,

When I did my car (nearly 10 years ago now) I used the 'paint' from The Furniture Clinic, and the semi-matt top coat/sealer (1 coat of colour and 3 coats of sealer)..... I used it for the seats (Honda S2000 ones), the door cards and the centre console.

I used black, because that's what I wanted, but they can match any colour to a sample if you want the OE grey (or anything else). It worked fine on the leather. vinyl, or whatever else it went on.

I used the same on Angies car last year, but didn't do the centre console as it was in good enough condition to just need a clean (same with door cards).

I used this stuff on my S2 centre console and steering column cowl. Pretty good colour match and seems to be hard-wearing so far:

I have an S2 centre console which I bought from a fellow LEC member 7 years ago for £150.

I'd be willing to sell it for £150 - a loss of £42 !

I've read your post now Roy - Hadn't realised we started halfway down.

Lots of possibilities for paint and you can get it colour matched - Most important is to remove all traces of polish and cockpit shine a good wash and a silicone (polish rather than sealant) remover. Then key the surface with an ultrafine scotchbrite pad.
