Window regulator slider noise

Hi all.

Been lurking here for a while and this is my first post.

When operating the drivers side window it goes up and down as normal other that it makes a loud cracking type noise
when it initially starts to go up. If I put a downward pressure on the glass the noise doesn't happen. I've removed the door
cards and looking at the regulator the noise seems to be caused by the slider that passes thru the glass rotating as it moves.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Before I remove the regulator how difficult is it to replace the slider?
The butterfly clip is new and intact by the way.

im rather confused by that.
the only parts that i can think of that rotate as they move in that mechanism are the pulley that operates the cable that pulls the centre slider up and down. and the motor itself.

i think id have to see a video of that your refering to to have an idea of what your describing.

the mechanism is rather straightforward and from my expeirence, usually problems are resolved with a bit of grease and re-aligning the rails (which is not a quick or "easy" job IMO)

It’s the white plastic runner that the cable ends go into, runs in the channel and fixes through the glass. When the motor takes up the little bit of slack in the cable the runner snaps round in the channel only a small amount but enough to make a loud crack. Looking at a picture of the runner I notice it has two lugs that locate into the butterfly clip so I’m thinking one or both of mine have sheared off.
How difficult is it to replace the runner once you’ve removed the assembly from the door?

MikeR, The center slider should not rotate and I'd say you are correct that 1 of the lugs has broken off and is cheap and quite easy to replace. SJ sportscars sell them. Removing a window regulator and refurbishing it is not difficult. If you think it's beyond your capabilities a local garage should be able to do it in an hour. If you need help with part numbers, drop me a message and I'll dig them out for you.

I've just had something similar happen to my Evora. It willl probably mean a new window regulator for my Evora, the fix for the Elan is much cheaper.
