roof cleaning

Hi all
New to Elan ownership, my last car was a vinyl roof so it did not matter what you washed it with.
What do you guys do when washing the car when it comes to the roof?
I hear some people only use water and some don’t care. What is the official way?

My roof is very clean and in perfect condition at the moment and want to keep it this way.
I know about Renovo and products like this but as I said my roof is clean, I just need to know about the maintenance of it.

I know nothing "official". I wash my whole car with plain water - seems to keep it clean. I only wash the roof about 1 in 6 times that I do the car - the roof seems fine without a wash most of the time. However, I do vac it with a soft brush tool more often (something like this)

Not sure if there's an 'official' way, but I use Renovo's hood cleaner as preparation for using their sealer.
It solved my problem with water penetration through the hood canvas. I usually re-treat it every spring and autumn.

It's less of a problem now as the car doesn't get used much in the bad weather - Thanks to ULEZ!!

I also wondered about the best way to clean an already well conditioned hood, and i like the idea of using a vacuum with a soft brush. I'll try that next time im cleaning the whole car. As regards the Renovo product. I used this to re-instate the black to my hood last year. It was actually already a good shade of black with little to no fading, but i assume it is the original hood (i dont think the car has been left out in the sun too much over its 29 years and has been garaged most of that time) It did deepen the black but unfortunately i also lost the original 'white' stitching colour around the rear window as a result of using the dye.
The biggest gain was to also treat the inside of the roof which had turned to a range of grey/brown shades. This is now fully black and really makes the interior with the roof up look so much better.
