Wing Mirrors - Teardown and Repair

The mirrors partially respond to command from the interior control so it's time to check the wiring and internal motor. I suppose I am safe to assume that neither the control unit not the wing mirror motors are some bespoke Lotus parts but more likely off another car.

Firstly, I would like to ask if there is anything special about removing the mirror section or is it the usual tabs that just require pulling with a plastic body work hook.

Secondly, in case the motor to mirror mating ring (the plastic part that accepts the tabs off the mirror) are in some way broken, what car are those motors from and is there a recommended supplier. Same with the thumb controller in the car itself.

Lastly in case the mirror tabs are broken, do we have a known reliable supplier of parts that actually fit.

if your issue is of the nature that both mirrors don't move in the same direction I would be looking at the controls in the middle of the car for rusty connectors

as far as disassembling them There are plastic parts in there that you cannot get and are likely to break because they're brittle over the years Certainly you can try to 3D print them I haven't gone to that extent in my efforts yet

I imagine I would break the plastic in the process of removing it, so if a solution is found, that would be great!

what you describe sounds very likely to be an issue with the central control switch. may even be something as simple as not being connected

i believe they are the same part as the vauhxal frontera. but my memory is terrible.

My control switch lights up when I press the heat button, and I've removed the centre console a few times, so I've unplugged and re-plugged it before.

This is super useful but we are missing any instructions on how to remove it. I cannot believe that Lotus designed this unit, it must be out of another car, do we have any idea which one it could be. Sure, the glass itself may be custom, but the mechanism is unlikely.

Thank you, I'm going to open up that mirror tomorrow and see where the damage is, it will not hold its place in the vertical so hoping tabs are broken rather than the motor "cross" itself. Do we collectively not know where or which car the motor unit came from?

I pulled my drivers side of today just for a quick look - nothing looks snapped so I need to test if a current is coming through to the motors, etc using a multimeter. - I didn't actually take the cover off the motors.



Do you have any tips for reinstalling it? I didn't try for particularly long, but I couldn't quite get all of the clips to snap into place.
