Welcome, I'll add you to the Le Mans list as a provisional, no committment at the moment that can wait until Jan/Feb next year when I have to pay for the tickets. I intend to do the same as I did this year, sort people out with the all important camping tickets and leave people to sort out their own travel arrangements, gets too complicated otherwise.

Slipped the subject into conversation with my beloved, I was quite surprised.... she might come too. Don't think that it's quite sunk in yet that three suitcases and the kitchen sink won't fit in the Elan's boot

Speedferries have a promotion on at present, you can book tickets up to Sept 2006 for GBP25 each way. Prices will go up due to increased fuel costs, so you might want to book now for your le Mans trip - it's the Dover<>Boulogne route, good roads to Rouen - takes less than 2 hours

Good spot Jim! The dates for Le Mans 2006 have not been confirmed yet but it is usually the third weekend in June so should be 17/18 June 2006. However, there is an outside chance it will be the weekend before, 10/11 June.

you can book an open ticket at this price of £25 each way just book for Christmas day, you can then change the date once free of charge, when you know the date of your travel all info is on www.speedferries.com

Although the ACO won't confirm the date of the race until next month all the intelligence is pointing towards 17/18 Jun. On that basis I've just had a look at Ferry prices. P&O have closed down the Portsmouth - Le Havre route many of us used last year and although LD Lines http://www.ldlines.com/va_pound.html are now operating that route and the outbound overnight crossing works, the 1700 departure of the return crossing means either missing the end of the race, (which I'm not going to do), or staying in France until the Monday afternoon. I haven't been able to get a quote off the site but hear that they're not particularly cheap. More flexible is Brittany Ferries http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/ with a range of routes. Portsmouth - Caen is the best for Le Mans (but Cherbourg and St Malo are also options) a test quote for a car +2 outbound overnight on Tue 13 Jun and return overnight on Sun 18 Jun including cabins outbound and inbound was £345. The prices are likely to go up once the ACO confirm race dates (was getting on for £600 during the early part of this year) so booking early is recommended.

For those who sent me blank CDs for the photo compilation CD of the 2005 trip the compilation is complete and the fully labelled CDs went in the post to you today, enjoy! If anyone who went also wants a compilation CD then either let me know and send me a blank CD and an SAE and I'll do some more.

I really want to do the classic (Gulf GT40, too right, got the T shirt) but justifying 2 trips to Le Mans (the 24 hours is sacrosanct) is a challenge. Totally different event as I understand and more suited to the chateau and fine wine style of camping than the warm beer and BBQ.

I have to make a decision. I can only do one Le Mans trip (mileage limitations). Track w/e with Lotus international or the classic or the 24 hours and i cannot make up my mind!!! Helppppp

If you have never done the 24 hours before, then you MUST. It's a 'no-brainer'
